36-24-36

36 – 24 -36…

I wish those were my measurements.

But they are not.

What are my measurements you ask?

Nunya…

That’s none ya business.

But even if my measurements are none of your business, God is seriously into measuring things.

Don’t believe me? Here are some examples:

For God knows what’s going on. He takes the measure of everything that happens. — 1 Samuel 2:3 (MSG)

Measure out about half a pound for each day and eat it on schedule. Also measure out your daily ration of about a pint of water and drink it on schedule. — Ezekiel 4:10 (MSG)

Every pound must have sixteen ounces. Every gallon must measure four quarts. The ounce is the basic measure for both. — Ezekiel 45:11 (MSG)

I was given a stick for a measuring rod and told, “Get up and measure God’s Temple and Altar and everyone worshiping in it. Exclude the outside court; don’t measure it. — Revelation 11:1-2 (MSG)

The Angel speaking with me had a gold measuring stick to measure the City, its gates, and its wall. — Revelation 21:15 (MSG)

Why does God measure?

God measures so He knows that we know things are going according to His plan.

We’ve got to be in the know!

If we never bother to measure where we are, then we won’t know how far we have come or how close we are to getting to where we are going.

How will you ever get to where you need to be if you don’t know where you are?

The map in the mall is really helpful if you can find that little dot that says, “You are here.”

If you don’t take the time to look for it, then you’re probably going to end up walking in circles.

How do you get more out of life if you don’t know how much you have now?

Stop and take a mental measurement of your love, life, money, happiness, and contentment. Now think about where you want to be in those areas.

Which way are you headed?

If we don’t know exactly where we are and where we are headed, then the first move and every move after that are potentially steps in the wrong direction.

A person of excellence examines who and what they are in every relationship and then plans, adjusts and explains accordingly.

This includes difficult times when we are scared of the answers, as well as when things are going great and we don’t think we need to know (because we just know that things are great).

Be ready for success… some of the most treacherous times we’ll face are those when things are going well.

Many have passed the test of failure, but few have passed the test of success.

Start Measuring Today

What can you start measuring right now?

I measured myself when I was pregnant. I wanted to see the growth. Then I measured after I had the baby because I wanted to see the shrinkage.

When we started our church, I counted people every week. That way, I knew exactly when we started growing.

I’ll leave you with this: Measuring is not the monster of comparison.

It is a point from which to start each new year, quarter, month, week or day. Use it to your advantage.

What are you going to start measuring today?

  2. Rainy Meeks says:

Pastor Nicole.. I have measured my growth in my life with Jesus..since starting Faith Church @ the Heart Banquet Center I feel I have come so far from that like millions of miles further ..I wont never forget what I have learned in my b4 Jesus days . Now I use it as a tool to Thank God daily for my achievements..I also try daily to help someone that is going threw what I did..so I will daily keep measuring my growth in Jesus..I really dont understand how I lived that way but I sure am greatful to Jesus for bringing me out of it and now I can not live without Jesus in my life I give all my thanks to Jesus using Faith Church and you and Pastor David as a Vessel to save me ..

Measuring my steps toward my 2012 goals!!
If I don’t measure them I won’t be able to track my success and needs for improvement!

    Great blog!

  4. Phil C says:

The thing I have been measuring a lot lately is my relationships. I am measuring where I am at with them and what I can do to improve them. You are so on point when you said that you may be “scared of the answers”. I didnt want to evaluate the relationships I had (all of them, wife, friends, coworkers, anyone I passed by, etc.) because deep down I knew that I had to change them. Excellent word today!!

  5. Batman says:

Love how you referred to the “You Are Here” dot on the mall map. You have to know where you are to know where you need to go 🙂

  6. Shannon says:

I so agree!!! And the Word is the best Truth “compass” to try to find out where I am!

  7. Omar Morris says:

Great blog on measuring Pastor Nicole,
I first heard the word “benchmark” from Pastor Nicole. When I heard it I thought, what is she talking about? I thought it had to do with writing graffiti on a bench, LOL! That is how ignorant I was of this subject.

Well, someone mentioned this great free app called, MyFitness Pal. I downloaded it on my phone and I’ve started recording every food and drink I put in my mouth on a daily basis. It is a great tool for me because it calculates what is you calorie intake then analyses how many calories you have in your bank to spend on a daily basis. You input your current weight and then your input your ideal weight. I calculates it all for you. So easy, just have to follow.

  8. Sheila Privett says:

Wow another lesson with tons of wisdom. You did it again, girl!!! Keep it coming, please? You said something powerful and important to think about. Now if I can just figure out where I am and how I got here, then maybe I can decide where I need to be and how to get there, but most of all remember to measure along the way, I tend to forget that part then I feel like I’m spinning around in circles and wind up getting dizzy then falling down. I Love You Pastor Nicole.
