Joel Osteen

Joel Osteen

If you’re wondering if Joel Osteen is a fraud, let me ask you…

If a person, pastor, singer, or anyone that loves Jesus, is pointing people to Him – then what is the issue?

It seems some Christians are eager and willing to slice and dice other Christians and I just don’t get that.

How in the world are we going to win the world for Jesus if we are so busy trying to deeply analyze people’s statements and find something bad in them?

People are NEVER going to like the exact same ‘style’ of worship around the world.

Our cultures are different, our experiences are different, and our personalities are different. That is okay!

What Type of Christian Are You?

Some Christians are calm. Some traditional. Some wild. Some expressive. Some we can’t tell what they are feeling because they don’t have an expression – but that is their expression!

Some Christians cry when they pray. Others close their eyes and fold their hands. Others get on their knees. Some lay on the floor. Some pray inside. Others out loud…

Some people must think God has a hearing problem because they shout at the top of their lungs.

All different – none wrong.

Our Calling

We love God. We worship Him. We are saved through Jesus’ blood and point people to Him. The Holy Spirit guides us daily through life.

Does it have to be any more complicated?

Chocolate Ice Cream

I think of it this way. I do not like chocolate. I know. Strange for a woman but it is true.

However – my daughter and husband LOVE it. Crazy, passionate love.

So when we go to an ice cream shop, we get different things. I get vanilla, or maybe raspberry, or even possibly orange and vanilla combined (I think I am getting hungry here.)

But Ashtyn and David??? They get chocolate ice cream, with chocolate chunks and hot fudge on top. EEEWWW!!!!!

My teeth hurt just thinking about it, but…

Just because my teeth hurt thinking about what ice cream they like, it doesn’t make the ice cream that they like wrong or bad.

It’s not illegal. They won’t go to hell for eating it. It wasn’t created by the devil.

The way that people connect with Jesus in their own personal style is not wrong. Whether their pastor yells, sings, speaks, laughs or whispers is not wrong.

Its All About Love

If we use as much energy to love and support other Christians as we do criticizing other Christians – we just might get this love your neighbor thing accomplished and win the world for Jesus.

So go out there and love someone today!

Then go buy some ice cream.

  1. Lesa Hobusch says:

Personaly, that was the best thing I could have read today, I am a corrections nurse. I work with prisoners in a county jail. I have been asked SO MANY TIMES, “How can you take care of those people”. folks those people are just like all of us, created in Gods Image, we all make “Choises”, some bad, some good. “those” people made bad choices. It might be your brother, father, mother, or sister. I love them just the same, some of then don’t like me, I have to live with that, and know that not everyone will , some of them have thanked me for what I do.

  2. Rainy Meeks says:

Pastor Nicole, I can say that I truely believe in Joel Osteen. Everytime I watch one of his Services its like he is talking directly to me. Threw Jesus, Faith Church along with Joel Osteen have helped me to become the person I am today. I love him and his Family and Honored to be a part of his teachings..Much Love always to Jesus and Everyone.

  3. Angie Jones says:

    Great words!

  4. Stephanie Talley says:

You’ve done it once again Pastor Nicole. Among the names I commonly hear, Joel is at the top. I just don’t understand the intense dislike there. Doesn’t the Bible itself point out believers taking other believers before the judge in front of unbelievers and then say that it’s wrong? Some get so busy in judging others that they have no time for witnessing or loving on those around them who desperately need the love of Jesus. How sad! Who cares if one does or does not like Joel… He’s lifting up the name of Jesus and that’s what matters. Personally, I love Joel and his ministry (How can you not absolutely love someone who’s happy and smiling all the time!).

  5. Julia Jahnke says:

WOW!!!!!!!!!! No one could have said it better. There are so many different styles – we must respect every man appointed by God whether we agree with them or not. The Bible talks about respecting all leadership and illustrates it many times. We should never speak ill of someone God is using to make a positive impact on this world! Thank you Pastor Nicole for writing such a bold & powerful blog!

  6. Jackie Carter says:

Sister did you get that one right! Amen…

  7. James Mattingly says:

Oh how true people are quick to throw judgement on others, but we all need to only judge ourselves and work on the one and only love for Jesus Christ

  8. Carrie Jost says:

“You know that’s right!!!” AMEN and AMEN!(I’m obviously a jump up and down, dance, praise and scream kinda girl with mad love for JESUS!!!)

  9. Gretchen says:

Joel Osteen is one of the most positive and encouraging people I could EVER listen to. Whenever I’m down, I listen or watch Pastor Osteen and he refills my hope jar! Pastor Crank is the other person. I love their styles of getting the word to me. I am giving serious thought to joining Faith Church St. Louis. Thank you David Crank and Joel Osteen for all you do for me. God bless you both.

  10. Loita Johnson says:

You hit it right on the head Nicole. Great job.

  11. Angela says:

Good blog. I respect Joel, any man that can lead the masses and build and do what he has done for God deserves nothing less. I dont relate to him and his delivery like I do Pastor Dave but there is no doubt he is doing good work for the Lord, and thats good enough for me!

    • Nicole Crank says:

Angela – Joel has done so much more for the kingdom than I have! YIKES! I better get to work for Jesus 🙂 I love that point and it really makes it relative to our personal lives.

  12. Kat says:

I sure am glad I don’t get ridiculed for the way I serve or worship! All I want to do is Love Jesus & Love people the best way I know how!!! In my understanding- people only pick at what they are insecure at and what they are intimidated by. If we just Love like we are suppose to then Love NEVER fails, and Love DOESN’T judge, and Love WON’T ridicule!

    • Nicole Crank says:

Kat – I agree! Ridicule is harsh. Especially when it is aimed at someone who is trying to point people to Jesus.

  13. Omar Morris says:

Great point Pastor Nicole! I love the different ice cream flavors example, don’t get me wrong, I also like ice cream Lol! We have to recognize that if we are going to win this world for Jesus, we must become very diverse because there are a great diversity of people out there. Paul said it best, 1 Corinthians 9:22 (NKJV)
22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. “I Have Become All Things To All Men, That I Might By All Means Save Some.”

  14. Kelley says:

Thanks so much for the blog. Its awesome that you shared on this. That is what I love about our church. We tell people to come just as they are, they dont have to get cleaned up before coming, Listening to Joel and Pastor the main thing I hear God is love and God is not mad and loves us. Im so in awe to give hope and tell people about Jesus. God is good….

  15. Connie Long says:

When a movement begins to succeed such as Pastor Osteen, Pastor David our church and you Pastor Nicole, that is when the enemy gets scared. The more people who hear all of you, the more walls some will attempt to put in front of you. The devil will work through anyone who has a sense of doubt. We as a church family need to be prepared because there are those who will attempt to stop and true follower of The Lord. I don’t know exactly how they are attempting to attact Pastor Osteen, but I will be praying for him as I believe he is a soldier of God. All of us need to pray, defend his right to convey his message and step up in the right to believe as we want.

  16. Great blog post, Pastor Nicole! We should never judge a man of God(or a worship style). And…we are ALL men/women of God!

  17. Amy McSheehy says:

A few verses to keep in mind when asking yourself if Joel Osteen is a Fraud…

“And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.” 1 John 3:23

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
    Acts 16 :31

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
    John 13:34

It doesnt get any simpler than that folks. This is the message Joel is teaching and living. No one cans say that Pastor Joel Osteen is not a compassionet and loving man.
And because Joel loves his fellow man he is a disiple of God.

    • Nicole Crank says:

Amy – It sounds like you are spending you time reading your Bible! God likes that and so do I!!! Keep it up!

  18. LOVE THIS!!!!!!! Great word.

  19. Dale Johnson says:

I can understand some of this, but when I watched Larry King’s interview, Mr. Olsteen would not give a definite answer that to get to heaven is through Jesus, accepting Jesus, repenting, etc.. In front of millions watching, he sidestepped our most basic belief of what Larry was trying to extract from him. I know this will not be popular to point out, but I know that Pastor Crank would not have sidestepped the question. I just don’t understand why he did not take that opportunity to put it out there. I’m not saying he is not a Christian, or that his work and effort is not good.

    • Nicole Crank says:

Dale – I’m sorry but I didn’t see it that way. It’s ok that we had a different take. I don’t think it’s ok to judge someone for one statement on a national interview that they might have been nervous and communicated it in a way that they didn’t exactly mean. Especially when his entire ministry is based on Jesus and the Bible.

As a speaker, sometimes I think I communicated clearly in my mind, then I go back and watch what I said and think, “Wow, that did not come out like I thought!’

Keeping in mind that we are all human and what may happen in the moment and how we may refine that moment if we could happens to all of us.

You seem like a God loving person. Thanks for commenting on my blog and sharing your thoughts!!!

      • Dale Johnson says:

thanks for your reply Nicole. But I want you to understand I am not judging Joel nor questioning that one and only statement as for as the positive info he relays. I listen to Anthony Robbins and he is very positive also to bring out the best in us. You seem like a God loving person too and thank you again for replying.

  20. jane says:

I like Joel ..If he is a fraud,God knows and he will answer to God ….

  21. Adrienne Rainey says:

Thank you for always speaking so candidly and challenging us to be all that God has called us to be!

  22. Greg Crayne says:

I dont understand the critics of Joel Osteen,I have never meet him,iam glad i stumbled upon his book in 2007 ,read it from cover to cover couldnt put it down, now fast forward to Sept of 2010 ,thats when we walked into Faith Church so without Joel not sure we would have found Faith Church ,I know every time I listen to Joel,Pastor David and Pastor Nicole and a host of great people that you bring to our Church,I know the decision we made is the right decision and that for the 1st time in my life I cant wait to go to Church and not just on Sundays,as far as ice cream i dont believe i have had a flavor i didnt like, chocalate and various forms of it is definately my favorite, but maybe we should look at worship like that there are many ways to praise God

    • Nicole Crank says:

Greg, I may be picky about my ice cream and personally I prefer the Faith Church flavor of worship. 🙂 Not that i am biased (or maybe I am!!!) I agree with what you are saying!

  23. I have one word for this…. AMEN!!!

  24. Debbie V. says:

Awesome word for today!!! Love how you always tell it how it is!!

  25. Jon says:

Amen! I couldn’t agree more with this!

  26. Amen Pastor Nicole! So true! LOVE this & thank you for this amazing word.

  27. Paulette Sanders says:

I love to hear Joel speak. He doesn’t even talk bad about other religion’s so how can he be bad. He preaches from the Bible. Tells you how it is. Just pick up your Bible and check. I think they just need some one to pick on, and Joel is a good man because he is so blessed. Hang in there

  28. Ken Jaco says:

Jesus Himself confronted the religious of His day, He lived a sinless life, He proclaimed the Word and was the Word, He lived and taught all who would listen how to live, Jesus used The Word(s) of God to face the people and Satan in that time and even unto our day He shows us how to face the devil and temptations of our lives. Jesus loved/ loves, sinners, for WE ARE ALL BORN SINNERS according to His Word, but He also knew His task at hand would not be easy but in doing the Father’s Will He/Jesus would complete His mission in redeeming the sinner from their/our sin, thereby making a way for us to live with Him eternally but also to live within us ( Holy Spirit ) so we too can be about the Father’s business. Bottom line is “IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS AND MAKING HIM FAMOUS” in all we do, in all we say pointing others to HIM, and in doing so, doing it in LOVE for our brothers and sisters, seeing them thru Christ’s eye, with His Heart of Love and Compassion, thus becoming HIS hands and feet, allowing Him to work through us as believers. If I/we focus less on what we want Jesus to do for us, and more on what WE MUST DO FOR HIM, seeking HIM first………that’s when it all comes together and the ‘stuff’ is added to us.
God’s word is like a 2-edged sword, it cuts the tares from the wheat, it divides, it has our does and don’ts……and by using Christ’s example we too understand there is much sacrifice in following Him, people will hate us and we will be persecuted for HIS Name sake even as Christ himself was, right now we have a brother in Christ, in Iran, facing death because he will not renounce his faith and belief in Jesus. Our lives are not our own, we were purchased by Christ’s Blood……let’s make JESUS FAMOUS !
    Blessings,
    bro-ken <

  29. David Smith says:

BOOM! This post is on point for sure! Fantastic job, Pastor Nicole! Way to stand up for men and women of God everywhere that are making Jesus famous!

  30. Christine Collier says:

HIGHER THE LEVEL— Greater the devil ! God reigns- Enough said! Who can be against me if God be for me!!!!!! Go Joel and Victoria and reach the lost! Ken and Christine Collier

  31. Jamie R says:

I love that Joel preaches positive gospel. The world is FULL of negativity and depression everywhere we look. People need to see that Jesus is good and there is hope, no matter where they are in life. That is what Joel presents.
Along with that it makes me so sad to me that christians get so caught up in judging leaders in ministry, thinking it is their job to change people. All they are there to do is present Jesus…point people in his direction. The rest is up to God.

    • Nicole Crank says:

Christine – and God is such a positive God! He says ‘we are more than conquerers’ and ‘if God be for us, who can be against us’ and ‘we are the head and not the tail’ and…well now I’ve just got to go rejoice!

  32. Melissa Lamson says:

The differences in worship, the differences in people, ALL of our differences is why I love our church so much. We are ALL created in God’s image and each of us are unique and therefore express ourselves uniquely. I totally agree, we can do so much more in winning the world for Jesus if we stop over analyzing everyone. Very nicely stated Pastor Nicole!!

    • Nicole Crank says:

Melissa – I agree. Diversity may be the most beautiful thing God made. If everything was the same, there would be nothing to look at, behold, or appreciate. Love your perspective!

  33. Randolph Reinwald says:

Yes! I agree, I agree. We all have so many interpretations and proclivities of our belief in God, Jesus and the Bible. I think a simple question can be asked of each situation. Does it work? Is it the truth? Truth- does it work? We have to quit beating each other up. I used to love the Bible Answer man, but he started condemning and criticizing all the other pastors out there. It turned me completely off about the Bible Answer Man. I no longer listen to his show. I know that he has many answers that are probably right. However, his anger and envy for my fellow Pastors in the business is distasteful and hypocritical. Sorry, Bible Answer Dude but I love Jesus and he loves me and everyone can’t suit everyone. Pastor Osteen bears so much fruit, how does he explain that one.? Good Topic, PNC

  34. Cherise says:

You are right on with this blog Pastor Nicole!! I love Pastor Wagner’s blog as well. You know when I hear about people criticizing Pastor Joel I don’t even blink an eye anymore. Talk about him. They talked about my dear Savior, Jesus Christ. But truth always prevails and light always shines! I think of our worship song, Our God is Greater which says, ‘and if our God is for us, then who could EVER stop us; and if our God is with us then what could stand against.’ Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. What indeed? Nothing!! NOTHING can!!! This may sound odd but I don’t mind the criticism. When others criticize, his ministry grows, his book sales go up, his crusades are attended at maximum capacity. People get nosy, people get curious. People want to ‘check it out’ and see for themselves. People tune in. People come to church…and they keep coming and they get saved and the Kingdom grows for Jesus!!! It’s like trying to push back the suns rays with your hands; it’s coming THROUGH bright and shining, like it or not. Talk all you want critics. Bring it on!! Make people curious about the gospel, the love and the forgiveness of Jesus Christ!! I’m gonna laugh all the way to Heaven with a George Jefferson strut at that!! LOL!!!

  35. John Gorse says:

In reading your excellent blog of the day Pastor Nicole, I was reminded of a story in the Gospels…It took me awhile to find it but in Mark 9:38 it states “Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
    39. “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40. for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward. NIV version.
This speaks to me that Jesus didnt want the disciples worrying about someone elses ministry. The disciples might have even been jealous that this other guy was casting out demons and sometimes they weren’t able to.
I think its dangerous to throw stones at anyone but especially other Christians. I think Pastors are careful in what they say on television and cant always go as deep in the word and teaching as what Pastor David does in the Tuesday night services. Tonights service was awesome from the first musical note to the final AMEN…and how about that song that had everyone leaping? Thank you Pastors David and Nicole for your steadfastness in spreading the Gospel.
P.S. Where do I Fedex the chocolate icecream with fudge on top?

    • Nicole Crank says:

John – Fantastic biblical response! Jealousy is such a negative motivator and most of us never want to admit it or talk about it. Great insight!

Ps – don’t FedEx chocolate ice cream, send vanilla bean 🙂

  36. Linda says:

Wow, you really hit the nail on the head with this one. I searched for a church for over 6 months. One Sunday I was watched Joel. It was a very powerful sermon, so when the program was over I went to his website. I hit the link for “find a church in your area”. And guess what? It said Faith Church. I got the directions and went that very Sunday. I have now been attending a year and it has brought so much into my life. I consider myself a “recovering baptist”. All those RULES – you can’t dance, drink or smoke stuff. It is so wonderful to have found a church that welcomes everyone and lets us all worship individually. I have found a home in Faith Church and Joel is the one who lead me there. It is so easy to judge others. I know that comes from the devil. When we judge others we don’t have to look at ourselves. You keep preaching Nicole. I love you!!!!

  37. Bill Broaddus says:

Excellent blog! I have always found it both perplexing and disheartening when I hear Christians flippantly attacking other Christians. In John 7:24, Jesus commands us to “…….judge righteous judgement”. In other words, if there is a Christian who is being flagrantly dishonest or in obvious error, we are directed to deal with that situation according to various Scripture protocol. But these pharisaical type attacks against Christians, especially Pastors and church leadership, over slight differences in what amounts to not much more than church etiquette is so wrong and counterproductive to what we are called to do as true Christians. Thank you again for the great blog!

    • Nicole Crank says:

Bill – Such a great and eloquently stated point! This isn’t as eloquent, but it reminds me of ‘We all have to stand together, or else we will all hang separately!’

  38. I just defended Joel Osteen to another Christian a couple days ago. He told me Pastor Osteen is a “feel-good preacher.” I simply defended him saying, “I love to feel good!” My wife, a little more eloquent on the topic said, “I just came from a great worship service at church. I know Jesus died for me. I FEEL GREAT!!” 😉

  39. Rebecca Parker says:

    Pastor Nicole,

All I can say to this is a great big AMEN!!! Nobody could have said this better than you!

    Love Rebecca Parker

  40. Christne says:

Before I was “introduced” to Faith Church, I would watch Joel Osteen’s service on TV, Sunday mornings. He is very inspirational, never judging or condemning. I heard of Faith Church, wondered about it, knowing if it was anything like what I watched Sunday morning, probably a pretty good place to be.
A friend asked me to meet her for service, I did and really enjoyed it. The next time I brought my grandchildren and stepson to KOF, as we were leaving, they asked when they could come back!! That was really exciting for me!!
I Thank God for Joel’s teaching of the word of God and planting the thought of Faith Church in my brain. I also Thank God for Faith Church and Pastors David and Nicole! Since attending Faith Church, I read the Bible everyday (never owned a Bible before). Pastors David and Nicole teach/preaches the word of God in a way anyone can understand.
Thank You, Pastor Nicole for your weekly blogs, it’s like you’re writing directly to me.
I have heard, when you dislike or hate something about someone else, it’s because you don’t understand their ways, or, you wish you had that same ability or character that you just don’t understand. Maybe that’s why other Christians are questioning Joel Osteen.
By the way, I sometimes cry when I pray, I pray standing, sitting, laying down; I pray quietly and out loud. But, I do pray!!!
Thanks again Pastor Nicole and May God Keep Blessing You!

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Christine,
Your reply made me warm and fuzzy. When you talked about bringing your grandchildren to the Kids of Faith, I think I figured out why. Your response has a sweet grandmotherly tone. You know through walking in life more than 20 years that we encounter tough things. But the wisdom of God in your life has come through you. Bless you Christine!

  41. Jennifer S. says:

Way to go Pastor Nicole! It sometimes amazes me how we can be so critical of each other. We need to accept that we are all different in our worship styles and put those differences aside to come together for Jesus. Think of how effective we would be and how many people we could touch!!!

  42. Toni says:

Am glad you posted this and wish more would nation wide. I happen to be an old, very analytical and exceedingly logic, HIGHLY moral, with a code of ethics that few in decades could meet, let alone exceed…old woman. I witnessed Joel on tv one early morning years ago and was fascinated. Followed him along his journeys (well, that is Pastor Joel, his exceptional wife, family AND the invent of Lakewood), reading the growing “concerns” all along yet it was Joel who lead my son and me and to Faith Church, and we are eternally grateful. What I have determined through evaluation and substantial research is….the reason behind some for negating Joel’s intention is simple. He takes us away from the fire and brimstone era, highlighting only the gifts our God offers, His mercy and kindness…not His wrath and need for vengeance. 🙂 Angels come in all shapes, colors, sizes, genders, from critters to man, if you will…and in that, many a half-hearted JUDGMENTAL Christian needs to remember is…how you treat His angels is what He looks for. How you treat and receive those who bear His message is on His radar. And….He is also pretty big on the credo…we are NOT judge nor jury, it is in His hands to decide the fate of those who may….or may not….make it to His door:) Sorry to ramble here, but the downfall of the Internet, a most innovative communication tool for sure, is….people sit behind a screen, ie, ivory tower….and often feel the need to be something more than they really are. Naysayers? Take heed…what goes around comes around three-fold. Be blessed, stay positive and let the light lead your way….not your mind, which is where the human element resides, eh? 🙂

  43. Eliab says:

If you are a christian and a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ…pls just leave Joel alone unless you are the LORD JESUS HIMSELF.

    • Heather says:

I think his message is good but have a problem with where the money goes. He lives a luxurious lifestyle which is probably funded by us. But he will be judged one day as well, like all of us. I just feel that if you are in such a high profile position as a pastor, you should live moderately, especially if you are preaching the “word” which teaches humility and not to be sucked in by material possessions. But then again, pastors aren’t exempt from temptation but should be an example. For instance, “I could live like a king, but I CHOOSE not to.”

      • Norma says:

Don’t we as Christians have our own agenda from God we need to tend to and not concern ourselves about where God told us our tithe should go?? He knows what He is doing. We need to trust Him in that and not worry about it. As long as we do what we are suppose to do, then let God do what He needs to do with our tithe. If He sees something amiss, you can be sure He will correct it. God Bless!

      • Glendy says:

I don’t think that he missuses moneies at all.. He also write’s books. It is not unusual for the pastors to get 10% of monies coming in for all their hard work and dedication. My son also pastors and it does not stop at the church. They are on call 24 x 7, usually.

Nothing wrong with making money when you dedicate your life to the Kingdon of God. It is only a tool to further the Kingdom. I bet they give a lot more then what they recieve. That is true dedication in my book.

        • Nicole Crank says:

          Glendy,

I am praying for your son who is also in the ministry. Wishing the best for him and you as well! The church is so much more than just four walls and steeple!

    • Mary says:

Amen Eliab ! Leave these pastors alone … they are real . I do feel that if you love your God then do alot of praying so that you can find your answer. The closer you become to the Lord , the more your heart will become closer and you will feel that these pastors are real and trying to spread the word and love of God. Yes, they aren’t perfect, because the closer they become to the Lord the more the evil on this earth is going to try to drag them down. Please find your own answers and don’t believe everything that you read.

  44. maureen says:

What a blessing it was to me to find this blog tonight. I just bought a computer and found something so negative about Joel Olsteen, and Joyce Meyer and my own pastor David Crank and found myself really asking the Lord to help me with it because it was disturbing to me and then tonight I came across this. I have been attending Faith Church for a year now and have been so very blessed and drawn so much closer to the Lord. These people who do all this criticizing probably have a very critical spirit and it is not pleasing to the Lord. I know alot of people myself with this type of critical judjement of others.I actually took someone to church once who started making judgements from the time they entered the doors about everything and everyone. If God blessed these ministers with money I am glad for them

  45. Gina says:

Please remember this when Evangelicals attack us Catholics. I believe Pastor Nicole’s chocolate ice cream analogy said it best!

really good job , you explain about the ice cream, it is easy to understand, and especially it approaches each person is different, only Lord Jesus knows how it ends, indeed possible, many ministers were rather accentuate his wealth, eg luxury cars, yachts and other luxury homes etc, indeed it is not wrong, but according to some people it is wrong, the Bible does not forbid people to get rich, but how wealth is acquired and how the assets are used .. whether for themselves or for the glory of God…amen

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Larry,

Thank you for your kind words! The Bible says that all good & perfect things come from God. The riches of this world will fade away, but God’s glory will shine for eternity!

  48. Steve Hayden says:

I would just like to know why Joel Olsteen did not give a straight answer to Larry King’s question about who will or will not enter Heaven. He is not the judge and I agree with that statement but it is very very clear in the bible that Jesus is the only way. Why did Olsteen not stand up for what Christians really believe in. Christians are not supposed to be liked and Jesus himself said that many people will not like us because of him. I just think Olsteen is trying to have everyone like him more than telling the real truth of the word.

    • Jesus Is The Way says:

I’ve read many of the posts here and have gone to the Word. It states at the end of the bible that if anyone adds or subtracts from it that they will suffer plagues stated throughout it. There are many people (including pastors) who will suffer at the hand of God because they refused to teach the Word in its entirety. The Word states that it is a doubled sword, which means that it’s supposed to cut you and make you bleed. You can’t be healed unless you admit that you are hurt and have pain. The Word says on that day many will say Lord did I not prophesy in your name and cast out demons and the Lord will say “Away from me you evil doer”. Its beautiful to teach of Gods love and mercy that is expressed throughout the Word but it people need to understand that according the Word in the book of revelations Gods wrath will be poured out among all humanity who chose to please themselves and others instead of pleasing God and adhering to the plan, purpose, and will of God for their life.
I pray for all humanity, that we will seek Gods face so that when we stand before our Great Saviour, he will say “Well done my good and faithful servant”.
      Blessings

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Dear Steve,

There really is no simple answer to your question. However, I do know that the Pharisees questioned Jesus over and over again when he was on trial before his crucifixion. Many wondered why he didn’t speak out and defend himself. Jesus wouldn’t answer or entertain their accusations. In short, Joel is just a man, like the rest of us. He doesn’t get it right every time, nor should we expect him to. But the Bible says you shall know a tree by it’s fruit, and Joel has produced some great fruit in his lifetime and touched a lot of lives for the Gospel.

      Be Blessed!

  49. Cheryl Morris says:

Joel is a great man of god I watch him every sunday night he is perfect just the way he is. I agree with you pastor nicole I love vanilla I can’t stand the chocolate but my whole fmaily does. we all have our opinions on different things like ice cream

  50. Jesus Is The Way says:

Nicole you speak alot about not judging but the Word is very clear about ones that will not inherit the kingdom of God. God sent his holy spirit which leads and guides us into all truth. The truth sin exists, people are lost and they need to know that Jesus loves everyone but if people dont turn from their wicked ways hell will be their eternal destination and this is in the Word.
As parents we guide our children and tell them about making good choices but we are obligated to tell them of the consequences of making bad choices.
So it is the same with pastors who are shepherds of Gods flock. Those who refuse to accept God and turn from sin and desires of the flesh will suffer the consequences.. Point Blank…. You have many Christians that are being told that they are bashing others and judging them but in all actuality they love people but hate sin as God does. True Christians are just taking the words from the bible and preaching the good news as we are instructed to do.
One thing that people need to understand is that this is not always a”feel good” Journey. While running this race the true children of God will suffer persecution, pain, heart ache etc… But Christ suffered, so shall we. I stress true children of God alot because while all people are Gods creation all are not his children. God notes this in his Word by saying “My sheep hear my voice.” True Christians stand firm and keep preaching the Word of God from Genesis to Revelations for in due time will reap our reward from Our Heavenly Father.
I pray for you and all humanity.

    • Nicole Crank says:

      MSNEALR37,

Thank you for your wise words! I agree with a lot of the things you have said. However, I heard a saying once, “People don’t care how much you know – until they know how much you care.” In accepting the parts of God’s word that teach on judgement, we cannot ignore His instructions on love and kindness as well. The Bible says in Romans chapter 2 that God’s kindness will draw people to repentance. So you’re right! There’s definitely a fine balance between grace, love & yet still living blameless before the Lord. It’s a tight rope to walk!

  51. Sandra says:

I believe you are a good man. I love to watch your tv on Sunday. Thank you

  52. Sandra OH OH says:

As a Christian… Joel has been the BEST faith leader I have ever known, after him there are other that have the ability to make feel the Holy Spirit. Joel has a special way to preach. He uses common life situations for us to acknowledge the presence of our God Almighty in our lives … His book are best sellers… To my eyes he has been so blessed for representing God’s work and spreading the gospel as Jesus commanded us to do… God blessed our congregation with a magnificent building made a Great House of Worship. It is just that whoever comes can contribute with whatever they can give even it is just you heart and your devotion to Jesus. What others may think or do that is their business with God. Lakewood Church and its pastors will always receive Everyone as you are, poor or rich, homed or homeless, it doesn’t matter who you are as long as you come in with your heart. God bless Joel, God bless Lakewood. And GOD BLESS US A L L !!!!

  53. Anders Böye says:

The Words of God are the same. The love of God is the same. So never mind the wrapping and the style as long as I in my spirit and in my Bible can find the same message as delivered.

To deliver as message and to communicate with people you have to be at their level and where there are. Hence we are all different languages and cultures there has to be an adjustment to get through to the souls ad hand.

The greater impact a preacher has. The more challenges they, he or she will face. Winning souls for Christ is declaring war on the dark side. The Devil don´t have to waste energy on people who doesn´t challenge him. So by making such a huge positiv impact Lakewood & Faith Church are sworn enemies by Satan. So it is imperative for the churches to stay connected, protected and annointed by the grace of The Lord and keep the faith and light. No dark has ever been able to kill the any tiny light. Stay save -stay enlightened – Greetings from Copenhagen Denmark

  54. I think Joel is a very good preacher and always draws a hugh crowd of people. I don’t see any problem.

    • Cloti says:

The majority is not always right but true followers of Christ are shun by the world and persecuted for sharing the truth of God’s Word. They are not wealthy, charming, famous. Itchy ears cannot accept what is contrary to their flesh desires and their own understanding and human rationale

  55. vicki renee silver says:

    dear joel and Victoria:

my dear friend DEBBIE COCHRAN, A GOSPEL AND COUNTRY SINGER SONGWRITER turned me on to you……I lived in Hollywood, ca for 28 years…saw it all…..heard it all….and I was jaded and even bitter about religion….God…..Jesus…….I am originally from Arkansas and was raised in missionary Baptist church….but had just gotten to a point of not believing anything…..I am so happy to have found you two….I love you ….I am so proud of you……your are so beautiful to me because you give me hope to carry on….may God be with you in this life giving hiss full bleesing and mercy and may he be with you in the life hereafter…..right now you guys are my ROCK……I love your common folk style….so easy for me to relate to ….may you continue to have huge success and thank you guys for reaching out to the multitudes….you are both now in my heart….Thank you God for sending me two angels

  56. ALLAN WASTANI M. MULANDI says:

Keep up the good job of the good old God. do not be discouraged by incitors, if i finish edditing my book, i would like u 2 use it n educate young african/american and the other communities on your youth seminar.

  57. Mickel says:

I have only been introduced to Joel Osteens ministry recently. I enjoy listening to him deliver Gods word,he seems genuinely blessed and I feel the Holy Spirit is in his heart. I pray he never tires from spreading Gods word, the Holy Spirit, and the love of Christ Jesus. Amen! He has and is causing me to desire a better relationship with Jesus.

  58. Melanie says:

I have listened to Joel Osteen for a few years now, as well as David and Nicole Crank. I “thank my God for them everytime I think of them” for they each have truly brought me closer to the Lord and His People. We are one bread – one body in Christ. My life has increased in insight and joy since they have entered my life – and that is on top of a Catholic heritage that wasn’t a bad one! Also Lisa Osteen Comes book expresses true Christian thinking and living. God Bless and Thank You for your ministries:)

  59. Angela says:

Nicole, That is the best that I have ever heard it explained. Great job!!

  60. Sim Li Yee says:

I’m from Malaysia. So-called Buddhist having a Christian Husband, been attending church mass with him for the past 7 years. I’m having hard time in understanding the priest’s sermons, because I never read bible and never understand what those verses mean. When I came across Joel Osteen through youtube channel, I was totally hooked up.

OMG, this man made me feel the GOD existence, he has given me so much hope, he made me understand what is faith. I do agree, his sermons are more like a motivational talk through god’s teaching in simplified, modern English instead of Biblical language but it successfully conveyed the message/teaching of god.

I don’t understand why other pastors commenting that he’s being a fraud, hoax or devil teaching, etc……but i think those who had bad mouth about Joel wouldn’t be any better. It could be jealousy or they just want to take opportunity to build their fame through Joel.

Joel has done a great job in all his sermons, touches my heart every moment I listen to them, gave me strength to face my obstacles, give me hopes on my future, he made me realized how much mistakes and ignorance I had done whether to my family, friends, works, financial, etc.

Thanks to him, I’m a happy soul now with my hubby, everyday counting our blessings, irregardless big or small.

May god bless Joel and his family. If I ever hv chance to pay a visit to USA, I will definitely stop by the Lakewood Church.

  61. John says:

Whether it is Joel Osteen or Al Sharpton, the gospel is the good news, not that you compromise with prosperity and God’s love. The gospel (good news) is that Jesus came into the world to seek and save those who are lost, died on the cross, was buried , resurrected in 3 days and returned to Heaven to become our mediator and propitiation for our sins. If you try to preach something else, you condemning those that follow that false doctrine to hell along with the person propagating that trash!!

  62. Arturo Martinez says:

God Blessed Joel Osteen and his Family and Lakewood Church .

  63. Natisha says:

Am a Christian, and I love to listen to Joel Osteen.

  64. John H. says:

I believe in what you have posted! We all have a different perception of GOD! I’m a Cherokee Indian from the bible belt in OK but live in LA California. I love the fact that you do not judge anyone…That is our FAHER’S JOB NOT OURS. BELIEVE….LOVE…UNDERSTAND…MOST IMPORTANT TRUST AND NEVER LOOSE YOUR FAITH! OUR FATHER WILL TEST OUR FAITH, AT SOME POINT & TIME IN OUR LIVES…STAY STRONG, TRUST IN OUR GOD, AND MOST IMPORTANT…DO NOT LOOSE YOUR FAITH IN OUR HEAVENLY FATHER! GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND YOUR LIVES!!! MY NAME IS JOHN AND IN THE BIBLE…JOHN SPREAD THE WORD FOR JESUS! I AM TRYING TO DO THIS FOR MY FATHER!

  65. Donna Hodge says:

I have listen to Joel Osteen for years now, he has given me strength and a reason to live. When I watch him he is a god fearing man, his sermans at times I feel are meant for me, but everyone is going through their own demons. This world we live in now is the time we need Joel to keep us in the faith and let us know we will get through this. I have all of his books and the Bible he wrote so people like me can understand, I read my books before I go to bed every night..I need Joel in my life, I lost my 33 yr daughter this year from cancer, she had it everywhere in her body. I believe if I didn’t believe in what Joel preaches about god, I would have taken my own life. God was persecuted and I feel that Joel is being persecuted by people, because some people are ignorant and others don’t believe in good, it that is not persecution then I don’t know what is.

  66. Sandra Milliner says:

where can I fine it on TV and the times.

    • Linda V, Francis says:

I have been listening to Joel Osteen for years. His sermons are very uplifting to cme. Reminds of a saying” You can please some of the people some of the times; but not all of the people all of the time.” Now, people, at a time like this, we should sympathize with the Pastor; not defray his character! After preaching for so many years–Where does fraudulent, etc. comes in? Is he running for a politica

  67. Linda V, Francis says:

Pastor Joey, you have always been an inspiration to me whenever I tune in to your ministry. All of the negative remarks being said about you—just throw them over your shoulders and let God take deal with them. This too, shall pass. God is at helm of your. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY..

  68. Pastor Joel Osteen Beside God is my hero He has a great ministry ……………………………………………………….

  69. Mark H from Atlanta, Ga says:

God created us all to be different and with a variety of gifts. So, it stands to reason that there are many styles of preaching and even types of preaching. The Lord puts different missions on the hearts of men and women that are willing to say, “Here I am Lord, send me.” Joel’s calling and style are going to be different than other ministers. Like many have stated here, as long as the truth of of Lord is preached and people are coming to Him, what difference does it really make? Personally, I enjoy many types and styles of preaching and all have a place at God’s table as long as He is glorified and His truth is being taught. It is also incumbent upon us as Christians to be knowledgeable of God’s word and diligent in the study of it so that we can know a fraud when we hear one. God bless everyone and thanks for allowing a place for people to comment.

  70. Sharon Lauzier says:

Joel & Victoria Osteen are like “angels on earth” & I will never stop loving them for all they have done for me. I’ve been through so many physical & emotional struggles in my life & many times when I tune in to listen to Joel’s sermon, it’s as though he wrote it for me. I feel God led me to receive the word of God through the Osteens & I only believe they are messengers on this earth to bring people to know & learn to love God. That’s what they have done for me & I thank God every day for their perfect health & existence.

  71. dee dee says:

eeeeeexaaaactly!!!!!!! that should get deep to people. Why are they taintin God?? Joel Osteen keep GODS spirit blazing!!!!! You are one preacher in a trillion

  72. dee dee says:

Joel what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger for GOD endure all just like Jeremiah and Nehemiah at the end of it we become stronger and stronger

  73. Mario Lopez says:

Muy bien me a cambiado mi vida

  74. Lazaro says:

I feel blessed every time I listen to Joel and Victoria Osteen. I had the privilege of attending “A Night Of Hope” in Anaheim this past Friday. I have a teen age daughter from a previous marriage. I am also a blessed “Newlewed” My wife, daughter and I were so moved by his powerful words. We had the opportunity to hear his beautiful daughter sing. Joel’s mother passed on strong words of encouragement along with his wife Victoria. My daughter who had some doubts prior to attending is now a believer and was saved on Friday. Words can not express the gratitude I feel for this man. All I can say is thank you God for putting Joel and his family in our lives at the right place, at the right time.

  75. estella muniz says:

Amen! You get not 5 but 7+ STARS for explaining it just like it is… in a nut(cocoa)shell shall we say?

I was raised a Catholic in my early years, then went to Baptist in my teen years (it helped me understand lots that I had questions about) then married and went to Catholic again. But like you say, it doesn’t matter what church we choose, I CHOOSE GOD and HE’S EVERYWHERE! And though there’s many different kettles I try to tell others, “but we are praying to the same God and worshipping the same God so let’s not be judgemental but just love one another and love more those who don’t know God.

Joel Osteen is awesome and I can listen to him all day long! His lessons are what keep me walking the “right path” and forgiving others and I have learned to deal with complicated people at work many times asking myself, “now how would Joel handle this?” and try to conduct myself as holy as possible. Just praying for those individuals who try to sour my day but they can’t bc I have God on my team – ALWAYS!

  76. Sally's Tender Care says:

I wish to Thank Joel for his faith and what he believes I been reading and listening to his teaching for years I have been reading his I declare going on 2 years My dear sister passed on from this life 12/22/2012 Joel’s teachings are helping thru this time and because of my Day Care of 17 years her grand child is my number 76 lil angel that God gave me to teach. If my daughter had not started sending these books on Joel’s teachings I would have gave up long time ago now to see these children going to College , There is a God and he’s winning

  77. Sara says:

Joel Osteen has bought me back to god. We now attend a good bible based church in our area I look forward to going to worship every Sunday. I feel happy and I know have a personal relationship with my savior. I was raised catholic. I feel so great now. Iam fifty and finally found god. Thanks Joel.

  78. gregory says:

john 13:34…….a new command I give you ;love one another as I have loved you , so you must love one another…………. .,

  79. Gloria Allen says:

Joel Osteen is THE BEST preacher hands down anywhere. If you listen to/watch his broadcast, and he doesn’t move you, bring you to Jesus and God – then you have a heart of stone.

He is the most uplifting compassionate living and insight pres her I have ever encountered and I watch him on TV every Sunday,

  80. Gregory F. says:

    love keeps no record of wrongs ……….1 cor….Ch 13 ……..verse4 thru 7

  81. Gregory F. says:

john 17:23 ……lets work together and be as one

  82. gregory says:

    we love you joel !

  83. Robin Gray says:

Every time I watch Joel it is if God had him talk to me personly. I always fill touched and moved.

  84. Blair Buell says:

I look forward to Joel’s sermon every Sunday, he is certainly an inspiration to me. I lost my dear wife of 58 tears last July, and many of Joel’s sermons have helped me through my grief. I would love to be able to visit Lakewood sometime, I live on the east coast of Canada so it would be a long drive, but I am sure it would be worth it. God bless you Joel, and all people involved with your ministry.

  85. victor cortes says:

Joel, I’ ve seen so many preachers, pastors, ministers and so call “men of God” out there. It is not up to me to judge them, but as the word of God says ” you can identify them by there fruits, that is, by the way they act. Lets keep in mind that nobody is perfect. The only thing that makes us perfect is the blood of Jesuschrist. I’m pretty sure our brother Joel struggles against trials of this world like all of us in this world, but I also see a man that is letting our almighty God work through him in a very humble way in which I have felt the presence of God. It moves me to keep my faith up and making me spiritual and mentally challenged to maintain myself trusting him in this decadent world, in the only one we can lean on, Jesus our lord.

  86. Edward says:

I am always empowered when ever I watch and listen to Gods word that he (Joel) delivers. God bless you Joel.

  87. Mark O says:

Im no expert and boy have I sinned in my 50 years on this earth. I was raised a Catholic but as Ive gotten older I had many questions about the Catholic religion. I never seemed to get alot out of a Catholic mass. I stumbled across Joel Osteen on TV and I was drawn to his style. Catholic mass and their ideas seem to old and ancient and 80% of mass is just old customs of neeling then reciting then this and that. I want to hear a message that I can use in my life. I’m surprised they arent sacrficing lambs on the alter still. I get more out of a 30 min broadcast of Joels program than I do a month or more out of Catholic masses. Plus most Catholics I know go to church but when your with them they are flawed, condesending, self riteous people. Dont mean to slam Catholics but the people around me seem this way. I’m still Catholic but I listen to Gods word through Joel.

  88. Charlotte Mueller says:

    Amen

  89. Jackie says:

What a wonderful analogy and response to controversial complaints. Real class and fellowship : )

  90. Dr. D. L. Bunce says:

Dear Rev and Mrs Osteen—Thank you so much for your very inspirational, effective, and blessed ministry. I am a seminary graduate and understand somewhat the blessings of ministry and could never be as effective as you. You are selected by our FATHER to do a special ministry. I thank Him for using each one in His own way. God bess and keep up the good work! Sincerely yours in Christ!

  91. Joel Osteen is a Man of God. Simple.

  92. Antonio Booker says:

Thank you for sharing this truth. It is all about love.

  93. PAUL WAGNER says:

I LOVE IT, AND I LOVE THE WAY YOU PREACH, REVERAND JOEL…
YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PREACHER. SO MUCH IN FACT THAT I GOT ORDAINED ONLINE..
HERE IS MY DELEMA, WHAT AM I DOING?
I DIDN’T GET ORDAINED TO MOCK THE LORD, ALTHOUGH, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW.
IFOUND THAT SCINCE I BECAME ORDAINED, I NEVER HAD TRAINING IN ANYTHING, AND NOW I AM AFRAID OF OFFENDENING THE LORD AND SAVIOUR.
YOU SEE I AM 66 YEAR’S OLD THIS OCTOBER 25 TH.
I BECAME ORDAINED BECAUSE,IT MAY NOT BE RIGHT, BUT I FELT I HAD TO DO IT.
2 YEAR’S AGO OCT. 14 2012 I BECAME A GRANDFATHER TO A BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL NAMED, FAITH MARIE WAGNER.
    IT WAS A JOYUS TIME,
THE DAY AFTER OCT.15, 2012 I GET A PHONE CALL FROM MY OLDEST SON, ( THE FATHER OF FAITH MARIE,)
    NEIL, SAY’S TO ME POP’S, DANNY’S DEAD,(MY YOUNGEST SON)
HE HUNG HIMSELF. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS TO PRAY THAT INSTANT,AND ASK FORGIVENESS FOR MY SON DANNY, I EVEN PRAYED THAT THE LORD TAKE DANNY’S SOUL, AND I WOULD TAKE DANNY’S PLACE IN HELL FOR COMMITTING SUICIDE. AND I PRAYED HARD ON THAT.
SO MY YOUNGEST SON WAS CREAMATED, AND THERE WAS A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HIM. ALL I COULD FEEL DURING THAT DAY WAS EMPTY.
THEY HAD THE HALL COVERED, THEY HAD THE SNACK’S COVERED, THEY HAD THE DRINK’S COVERED, GET THE PICTURE.
ALL THE TIME I WAS WAITING FOR ONE THING, WORD’S TO BE READ OVER MY SON.
NO ONE BOTHERED TO GET A PREACHER, MINISTER, REV.
ANYONE THAT WAS ORDAINED,TO READ OVER MY YOUNGEST AND SEND HIM ON HIS WAY…
THAT REALLY BOTHERED ME, ALTHOUGH I AM TERRIFFIED TO SPEAK IN PUBLIC, I BECAME ORDAINED, I VOWED I DID NOT WANT OTHER’S TO BE SENT OFF WITHOUT WORD’S.
PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME WITH ANY IDEA’S.
    I WOULD SURE APPRECIATE IT.
I KNOW YOU ARE A VERY BUSY MAN, LIKE I SAID I WILL BE 66 SOON, AND ONLY OUR LORD KNOW’S FOR SURE, WHEN IT WILL BE MY TIME.

I AM TRULY SORRY IF I BOTHERED YOU SIR, I DID NOT MEAN ANY DISRESPECT, I DO HOLD YOU IN HIGH REGARD’S, BUT THERE IS ONE HIGHER.(LOL)

    THANK YOU
    REVERAND: PAUL WAGNER

  94. Kenneth Jr says:

Thank you. My understanding of Jesus’ teaching – If we love one another as He has loved us the commandments will not be an issue. Curios, I clicked on a link: Osteen Scandal which of course could and would have led me to a lot of negative stuff. You Link topped the list – I need read no further. Thank you again from the place in my heart where Jesus Lives.

  95. linda smith says:

Joel Osteen is a very good pastor that man is a very loving man and he and his wife loves the lord very much good work Joel and victoria

  96. Valerie says:

We need to get our eyes off people and get busy with the purpose God has called us too. Loving one another is a big part of it!

  97. n.e.adams says:

fin finally!!! someone who believes like I do!!

  98. Michael Young says:

That was so perfect enough said!!!!!

  99. Angela says:

Love you Joel and Victoria!! Please keep up the work that u were born to do!!

  100. GOD's daughter Tammy says:

Everybody has a purpose and a plan from the LORD. Some pastors preach “grace”, some preach “holiness”, some preach “repentance”, etc. Pastor Osteen preaches “hope, expectancy, faith”, and contrary to what’s been said, he leads people to JESUS!! I never hear an unkind word from Pastor Osteen–even about his critics! That speaks more about JESUS’ Character than anything else–he lives it!!! Also, so many people from different beliefs watch him, love him & hear his invitation to accept JESUS–WHOM he does talk about! I saw his children singing with their hands raised to JESUS–tears in their eyes! Maybe we should take the board out of our eyes before we take the splinter out of others’. And we should just pray for JESUS and HIS message of love, mercy & grace & making disciples of others instead of judging. I pray EVERYONE be blessed & come to know JESUS as their LORD and SAVIOR!! JESUS is sooo GOOD and WORTHY!!!
