#3 Taking time for yourself is not selfish – it’s necessary for sanity.

It’s not possible to take proper care of others if we don’t first take care of ourselves. Read, pray, exercise, rest – and do that one thing that makes you happy! Yes, you just officially got permission to go get a massage!

I have HUGE issues with this one. But I am working on it and hope you will help keep me accountable!

  1. Barbara Hobbs says:

I think we are all Guilty in someway of trying to Be Super Women and never take time for yourself. 2013 I also going to do stuff for me.
Learn it OK to have alone time. I can’t even imagine how you Pastor Nicole stay sane. Thank you For doing all that you and your Family does for us.

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Barbara,

I think 2013 is going to be your best year yet! And you’re right, everyone needs a little R&R to get clarity and peace of mind, even pastors need it! Thank you for your warmth and appreciation! 🙂

  2. How does one stop feeling guilty when we take time away to relax? I am slowly learning it is okay to take “me” time.

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Carlita,

Think of it this way… Typically, your performance is best when you’re fully rested and have clarity of mind. Sometimes, all it takes is a little rest & relaxation to get you recharged and back into the right state of thinking. Don’t feel guilty, even God designated a seventh day of the week for us to rest!

  3. Ronda Shoults says:

It is so true as women we feel guilty about taking time for ourselves. I am a truck drivers’ wife our life is very difficult in a lot of ways. He is on the road most of the time M-F. He works weird hours and I am a 9-5 person. I love him so much and he works so hard. We have to listen to all the stereotypical stuff regarding truck drivers and their life styles. Its not like what people think! I know I feel guilty when he wants to talk and its time for me to sleep or if I had a rough day I just a lil bit of no talk time but I usually realize that he needs me. I need him too! I can’t wait for him to get home and hold him and love him and cook for him and do his laundry (I can’t believe I just said that!) But I get more time to myself than I want…its wonderful to be rebuilding my faith in God and I have finally found a church that will allow me to grow and learn…I was raised in faith by wonderful parents and so blessed they have set an example for me they have been married 66 years! So for me …my me time is pretty lonely …but I understand we all need it ….Me time makes all a little more likable by those around us!

    • Nicole Crank says:

      Rhonda,

I love the way you take care of your husband! The fact that you love to serve him, and even do the stinky laundry, says a lot about your heart!! Everyone needs their time away, but you’re right. If you get too much time, you’ll start to feel isolated and lonely. Who knows, maybe your “me time” looks like getting some girlfriends together for a relaxing pedicure or an afternoon of shopping/baking! God is into good fellowship just as much as He’s into a little R&R!
