I can’t wait to introduce you to my wonderful spicy friend Cindy Thomas! I had no idea that she had issues with being spicy and we even put that word on her photo to promote the conference! I wish I had read her blog first…

I’m here to make things Spicy… and you?

You know, among many things, I struggled for years trying to accept my own personality. The list could definitely grow, but today let’s not go there! Instead, let’s just focus on my personality disorder…

My desire was to be the girl who was sweet and soft spoken. Instead, however, I’m not very sweet and I cannot recall anyone – ever – using the term soft spoken when describing me. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t describe myself as obnoxious and mean, but I’m just not shy, I am very honest, and, well, let’s just say… a bit Spicy!

Part of this struggle in my life is that I KNOW that God created me specifically and exactly how He wanted me to be. After all, I BELIEVE in Him, therefore, I BELIEVE His Word, and I BELIEVE what His Word says about me. But if I can just keep it real, I was a little disappointed with His work…I mean, I just thought He could have done so much better with me!

Another fact about me is that I’m not much of a cook.

Okay…I said I was very honest so I must confess that when I say “not much of a cook”, I actually mean that I NEVER cook. Ever.

Please don’t judge, people!

The bottom line is that although I don’t cook (and I have no intention of ever cooking), I LOVE cooking shows…weird, I know!

The fabulous thing is that my AMAZING and AWESOME God loves me so much that He uses these simple things that I have no understanding of to speak to me right where I am.

As I watch the cooking shows I am intrigued by the huge variety of spices available to each chef. Some spices are sweet, some spicy, and even a few are a bit tart. However, although Basil, Cinnamon, and Garlic all taste different, they ALL have the ability to compliment – and even enhance – the flavor of a dish.

Without even getting close to the kitchen, I received a revelation that finally allowed me to accept my Spicy personality. Instead of comparing myself with all the other fabulous “spices” in the world, I understood that some dishes are just going to need some Red Crushed Pepper instead of, something like, Rosemary or Sage. I will not hate on the Rosemary or Sage, and I have learned to accept Dill and Oregano for what they contribute… But I have also learned to do my own happy dance for the opportunity to be Red Crushed Pepper!

The reality is that all of us struggle with accepting the fact that God did His BEST work when He created us.

I challenge you to identify which spice you bring to the table.

Identify it, celebrate it, and allow God to use you to season your circle of influence. YOU are exactly what is needed right now; YOU are here on PURPOSE; YOU are here to season the world for Jesus!

Matthew 5:13
“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be the seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth”.

Thank you!! This word means so much to me, especially coming from you Mrs. Cindy! Pastor Nicole & Mrs. Cindy you are two of the most gorgeous & anointed women of God ever! I’m so thankful for the honesty both of you share. Life is so much better when we accept & embrace who HE created us to be. We each have a place and a plan He needs us to fulfill. When we recognize who we are in Him and remember in our weakness He is made strong things really fit into place. I love when Pastor Nicole and Pastor Dave remind us to dwell on our strengths, not our weaknesses.
Great word Mrs. Cindy! I do cook and I need lots of different spices. Red crushed pepper is one of my personal favorites. (It’s actually on my nightstand right now because we had a snack last night & I needed extra!)
    God bless you!!!

  2. Marvelyne says:

Ha! Love this! I’m sooo very thankful for all the spices- how very boring life would be without them. Confession: I tend to come across as the soft spoken type… And I’ve actually made my hubby promise to NOT put “sweet” on my tombstone because it sounds so uhhhhh… less than spicy.

  3. Kerrie Pabon says:

    Absolutely love it!!
Thank you for sharing truths that covers and confirms identity.
Throughout many years of feeling , “not good enough”, God had the right people, at the right time enter my life.. Just to confirm that I wasn’t alone and that it was ok to be different!
    I’ve learned to embrace who I am~

  4. Melissa says:

I LOVE this and will embrace my Cilantro personality!

  5. Love this post and love Cindy…she is the real deal! Thanks for being honest…I have no skills in the kitchen either 🙂

  7. Ledia Russo says:

Very good analogy of spices and personality, to be honest when I first heard u say u don’t cook I felt bad for pastor scot and wondered what kind of women u are, trying not to judge I started praying for u, I soon realized how refreshing being different is, ur by no means typical definitely spicy and honest, grown to love u pastor cindy u inspire me to be me without allowing people’s opinion to hinder me, ur like a breath of fresh air…:)

  11. Ayoub says:

I couldn’t agree more about gareitrics. I miss sitting with some of the elderly individuals I used to help and they would tell me stories for hours about the things that they witness when they were younger, and the lives that they lived up to the point that they needed care. I have always felt that the elderly know how to live their lives better than anyone, and they for sure never take it for granted! Sometimes the people taking care of them are not good people though, and it always breaks my heart to see someone talking badly to an elderly man or woman.I like how you made a switch from little tiny babies that have no real experience with life, to elderly men and women who have lived life to its fullest and still have more life to share with others. Such opposites!
