Seriously, no joking about the do-do.

Sunday night I preached about do-do. Seriously… this is not a joke!

Typically, I don’t like jokes or discussion about, well, eewwww subjects. But, it was unavoidable!

You see, I was talking about the disconnect between what we are thinking about and then putting our thinking into action.

Like my action plan for my hips. That’s right, I put it in print. They are a problem. A BIG problem LOL!

Before I went to a conference in Dallas last week, I had worked out for 30 minutes a day for 10 out of 14 days.

YES I am bragging! I am exceedingly proud of myself! However, I only lost 1 (ONE) very lonely pound.

Then I Got Busy

I got to the conference and I was busy. Up early, meetings until late, meetings after meetings, in bed at 1 am and back up at 7:30. Day after day. I didn’t have time to workout is what I told myself. So I tried to behave and ate a salad everyday and a piece of fish everyday.

I came home, got on the scale and – drum roll please – I had GAINED 3 pounds! UUGGHHH! The thing that burns me is I was trying, but halfway. I know what I needed to do, but I had a great reason for not doing it.

The Do-Do

I was reading about a Fortune 500 leader that was addressing this very subject – turning your think into your do (you’re beginning to see the way I ended up at do-do, aren’t you?).

The man being interviewed said that after much investigation, research shows that REPITITION (doing the do, repetitive do of the do, do-do for short….agh, the light is coming on!) is the cause for people’s thinking becoming action.

Even the Bible agrees:

Anyone who listens to the word but does not DO what it says (hearer vs doer) is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to DO this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
— James 1:23-25 (NIV)

The Secret to the Do-Do

Note takers are cool. But we have to review the notes. Hearing a speaker is awesome, but we have to get the cd. When we get the cd, we have to listen to it and actually READ the notes we took.

My hips aren’t getting any smaller because I am thinking about the P90X. My brain isn’t getting renewed because I thought about how I really need to read my Bible today. My life isn’t getting any better because I thought, “I sure would like a nicer life, tomorrow I will do something about that.”

Thoughts have to be put into action to be effective. The think must become the do. And the do must be repetitive. The do must become the do-do.

And now I’m going downstairs to get my do-do on and whittle these 3 pounds away before our Chic Chat Madhatter’s Tea Party tomorrow night.

Tell Me

What are you gonna do-do today that gets a part of your life out of ‘I’ve been thining about it a lot’ mode?

  3. Linda Drury says:

Great message. I have been working on loosing weight myself. I am 13 lbs. away from having my first 100 lbs. off. I then have 120 more pounds to go to hit my goal to weigh 160 lbs. I have done some research on it. I think you look great but if it is mostly your butt you are wanting to shape. Brazillian Butt Lift is the one that would help you out the most. It shapes your butt and helps to loose weight. I am not quite where I want to before I do this one. I am doing Body Gospel right now I love it.

  4. Denise says:

Nicole, I have had it on my heart since last Sunday’s services to post on your blog about the amazing message you shared during the day and in the evening. I enjoyed listening to you and and your messages from God very much! You are an awesome Pastor! Thank you for all your discernment and insight and sharing your life with us.

    • Linda Drury says:

lol Pastor Nicole! Unforturnately we do have to do the stuff on the DVD to get it to work. lol I am going to buy the Brazilian Butt lift DVD when I get closer to my goal. Right now I would need a chain saw to shape my butt. lol Waiting to shape it when I get another 80 or so lbs off. Thank you for the compliment!
