We never think we have the TIME to train someone else to do what we do.
In many ways, it just seems EASIER to do it all ourselves.
The other day, I was working on my computer TRYING to get a few things done.
It wasn’t a difficult task. But it WAS quite time-consuming, because I had a LOT to do.
Honestly, with a little direction, ANYONE could have done it for me. (It really wasn’t a good use of my skill set.). But I didn’t think I had TIME to show someone how to get it done.
After all, isn’t it faster if I just do it myself??!!
Multiplication
When we train others (raise their potential, invest in them) we aren’t adding to our life – we are multiplying it!
“Leaders who mentor potential leaders multiply their effectiveness. There is no success without a successor.” -Dr. John Maxwell
The truth is; if we want to be successful and leave a real LEGACY, we can’t afford NOT to teach others how to continue our work when we’re gone.
Wise Investments
Training a person up front can pay large dividends LATER.
By investing MINUTES now, we may save ourselves hours and even DAYS in the future.
Sometimes we don’t realize, that by MENTORING and raising up qualified people, we’re actually creating a “Mini Me” to take some of the load OFF our own shoulders.
The more we can relinquish to others, the more things will begin to go FASTER and more smoothly for us the next time….and the NEXT!
Pass It On
I know it may seem SIMPLER just to handle everything ourselves. (It’s hard to admit that we’re not indispensable.)
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” – 2 Timothy 2:2
Each of us has been given special gifts and TALENTS.
If we can DUPLICATE ourselves, we’ll be instrumental in helping develop the hidden potential in God’s NEXT generation of leaders.
Our Prayer For Today
“Father God, thank you for trusting us to teach and train Your next generation of leaders. Thank you for Your Word which gives us the wisdom and clarity for our task ahead. We won’t take this assignment lightly!” Amen
THANK YOU for sharing this blog post! I can totally relate to this! Ironically, I have consulted with many organizations and leaders about this very skill, yet I often forget to take my own advice! Thanks for the reminder!
Who can help you today to do what you are doing so that you can be more productive in the things that others can’t do?
That’s so good!
Such words of wisdom. Works in every area of our lives…at home, work place, my mother was great at this. So happy she took the time to teach me so many skills to go forward in life!
This is so true Pastor Nicole. I have often thought it will go much faster if I do it myself, and have suffered the consequences of frustration, not having enough time to get everything done. My kids are willing to help me if I just take the time to show them. I remind myself all the time to invest in them, so they will know how to take care of themselves, and to takeover work I need help with. Thank you for this blog. I really needed to be reminded.
Lori – it sounds like you are on the right track!
whoa! this just totally blessed me. it’s so true – especially in business. you have to make yourself duplicate-able so you can enjoy the residuals! thanks pastor nicole 🙂
