Distractions create mental turmoil. They keep us from having deeper relationships. They cause us to multitask so much that we don’t do anything effectively. What types of distractions are keeping you from the main thing? What is YOUR main thing?

The Distraction Of A Pound

People who are trying to lose weight sometimes get caught up in the number of pounds that they have lost. If they are exercising, they are likely gaining muscle. A transformation is occurring where their body is exchanging fat for muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. As they lose fat pounds but gain muscle pounds, the scale can appear to stand still. Pound-focus causes frustration because the pound distracts people, when they should focus on their fitness level, measurements and how their clothes fit.

The Distraction Of Those Who Didn’t Stay

Those who start with us often won’t finish with us. If we focus on who doesn’t stay, we’ll get distracted and off track and miss out on what is ahead. I could focus on the fact that in a church of thousands, only a small group of individuals remain from twenty years ago. The fact that their spouse didn’t stay or that their last three spouses didn’t stay could distract many people. Don’t let that happen! The past is the past, we have to stay focused on what is ahead, or we will miss out on great things!

The Distraction Of The Small Stuff

I was preaching recently, when I got something in my eye. It was probably microscopic, but it felt like a boulder in my eye. My eye was watering and red. I kept rubbing it and was totally distracted from what I wanted to share. Distractions don’t have to be big to get us off-track. It is a bunch of small insignificant things that can
derail our day.

Focus On God Reduces The Room For Distraction

I’d like to encourage you to make God the superior choice in your life. Put Him first. The more we focus on Him, the less our distraction can get traction!

  1. Pamela Kemp says:

We also have to be careful of distractions because they can cause us to procrastinate. Procrastination can be a way of detering us from doing what we should be doing in order to stay focus, and keep God first.
