When I was in fourth grade, I discovered some old photos in my mom’s dresser drawer of her with some other guy. “Wait a minute! That’s NOT my dad!”
That’s the day I found out that I was adopted.
I felt angry and REJECTED. The fact that it had been kept secret from me, all those years, stirred up all kinds of emotions that I had to deal with.
Ultimately, I became a “people pleaser” and desperately wanted everyone to like me. I endured a number of other rejections in my life that brought me to my knees.
I was molested, raped, and abused by people I thought were my friends or close to me, in some way.
Through it all, I still hung on to speaking to God about every situation. He continued to remind me,
“Hey, you know what, Nicole? It’s okay if everybody doesn’t like you. I LOVE you! I loved you before all those horrible things happened to you…and I STILL love you!”
No one enjoys feeling rejected. Everyone wants to know that they belong. If that’s you… if you’re feeling lonely, maybe you just need some NEW more supportive friends.
