A few years ago, David and I were in a New York City TAXI, going from one side of town to the other. Instead of just keeping to myself, I curiously asked the driver where he was from.
When he said, “Haiti”, I was really excited to talk to him about the work we were doing there with the orphanages.
Once he saw that we were genuinely interested in his country… he just LIT UP! He starting talking about how he thought Haiti had so much potential!
I showed him pictures of our relief efforts after the earthquake, and he looked at them WHILE he was maneuvering us through rush hour traffic!
(Mmmm… it was exciting, to say the least!)
Then, he did something totally unexpected. He reached over and just shut the meter OFF! He said, “You are doing something to help MY country. I am doing something to help YOU!”
WOW!
So much for your typical rough and tough New York cabbie! We helped HIS people… so he wanted to do something to help US!
If a simple, sweet Haitian taxi driver feels that way, how much MORE does God love it when we help HIS people?
When we minister kindness to strangers, God is always faithful to send someone to minister kindness to us and our loved ones.
He loves helping us so we can, then, turn around and help others, MORE!
