Do you ever look at holidays and completely
stress out because you just KNOW you’re not going to get the whole thing right?

What they want. (What DO they want?) Finding that unfindable thing that everyone wants. Being at all the right places at all the right times. And trying to do it all… without going bankrupt!

I get you!

I especially remember the year I was a single mom. I was recently divorced, bankrupt and foreclosed on. Buying on credit was out of the question.

Oh, and there was this little thing called “Christmas” that was just a few weeks away! Yikes!!!

My five-year-old son was counting on ME to turn this whole mess of nothing… into something.

Merry Stress-mas!

(Like, I really needed that pressure on top of everything else!)

Austin LOVED Legos. But at Target, they cost $20 for just a tiny little box, the size of animal crackers!

(What’s the deal? Give a mama a BREAK!)

So, I started hitting up yard sales. I scraped together as many of those pieces as I could find.

But, without the original boxes and the instructions, it just didn’t seem… well, good enough.

I spent HOURS trying to build an amazing castle. But, it turned out to be more of a sad looking shack.

I did manage to find a used CD player and some random music at a pawn shop. (I had NO idea who the artists were. I was just praying it would all work out.)

When the BIG morning arrived, Austin came out of his bedroom… and his face FELL.

“Ohhhhhhh… Legos…”

(Uh, excuse me?! Right words. But, definitely, WRONG tone.)

Have you ever been there? You’ve tried EVERYTHING you could think of… but it still didn’t go quite right?

Then, he took one look at that secondhand CD player and his face LIT UP! The next thing I knew; he was dancing around to the “Tootsie Roll.”

(Okay… I did NOT see that one coming!)

Isn’t it great how God loves to surprise us by TURNING everything around for our good?

When our plans fall FLAT, He has a way of breathing new life, joy, and excitement into them.

God’s plans often look different than what we had in mind. But let me tell you… His way is so much BETTER!
