Have you ever felt stuck between a move and a moment?

David and I are currently facing a transition ourselves. We were preparing to make a major home repair on our house in Florida.
That led us to consider downsizing. Since our daughter, Ashtyn, is working full-time in St. Louis, we simply don’t need as much space anymore.
So, I felt led to list our house for 30 days—just to see what might happen while we waited on permits.
That’s when God began to move!
NO showings for days. Then suddenly… an offer. Then the offer wanted to close in 14 days. What? We have nowhere to live!
Here’s a tip: Don’t rush. Don’t settle. Wait on God’s wisdom.
So… HOW do you know?
Here are three things that might help you discern your next step:
Of course, it’s not just about selling houses or relocating cities. Maybe your “move” is:
1. Pray Constantly and Honestly – Not just once. But all day, every day. Check in with God in quiet whispers. “God, is this You?” “God, what do You want here?” “God, crack open the parts of my heart I’m guarding.”
2. Line Up Your Will With His – I keep telling God, “I THINK I know what I want. But I don’t want it if it’s not from You.” I don’t want to get what I think I want and then discover it’s not where I’m meant to be.
3. Stay Spiritually Aware – Look for signs of grace. For me, I was waking up at 5:55 AM—three fives. That’s grace, grace, grace. That’s God speaking. Keep your spiritual eyes open and watch for unexpected peace.
- A new job.
- A different church.
- Starting (or ending) a relationship.
- Shifting your mindset.
Sometimes, we think motion = success. But movement without roots can be chaos. God often calls us to stand still and wait to be planted.
So before you rush to the next big thing, ask God, “Am I rooted where you want me?” And if it’s time to move… He’ll let you know. With grace. With peace. With confirmation.
What did WE do?
Just because we had an offer doesn’t mean we’re supposed to move. When things get serious, we have to lean into God even more. Not just do what’s in front of us… but do what God wants from us.
Do we move, or do we stay put? That’s what we’re still praying through. So let me encourage you:
Pray. Surrender. Watch. Obey.
And when you feel unsure, remember that God’s grace is never far behind.
