Before I was even born, my biological dad in Canada gave me up. Then, I was adopted by my stepdad in the United States, when I was three.

I think that’s why I’m kind of an overachiever now. Yeah.

Because somewhere in my head, I think – maybe if I can WORK long enough, TRY hard enough, and I’m GOOD enough… somebody will think that I’m worth it!

Maybe they won’t leave me.

Maybe they won’t give up on me.

I get it.  I understand the pain, confusion, feeling unwanted, or feeling not good enough.

Could I have done something differently?

Did I do something to offend them?

Why did they abandon me?

Why can’t I get them to come back?

But I want you to know you ARE wanted, you are needed. If a parent has exited a relationship, it’s not because of you. You didn’t do ANYTHING wrong!

You didn’t play too loud. You weren’t too annoying. It’s not that they couldn’t deal with you, even if they told you “You’re driving me crazy!”

Humans are flawed beings. You can’t pick your parents.

God is our GOOD Father. He told me, “Nicole, I will never cut you. But I will CUT OFF things (or people) close to you… for your own good.”

So, just shake it off and stop trying to EARN your way to feeling worthy enough!

God is faithful! He will never leave or abandon you. In fact, God will heal you and then LIFT YOU UP on the very thing that you thought would take you down!
