There’s nothing more miserable than sitting as a hostage under the influence of an angry leader.
I certainly wouldn’t continue to come back to a church where I felt like the Pastor was trying to ram things down my throat with forceful opinions that often are not backed up by the bible.
Get Video Feedback – On Mute!
The best advice I’ve been given is to watch my sermons while on mute.
Body language says it all. It doesn’t matter what’s coming out of my mouth. My verbal and nonverbal signals need to match. If my nonverbal signals show anger, I might as well be spouting an angry message.
Psychologist’s statistics reflect that 60-90% of our communication is nonverbal. If an individual ONLY listens to a verbal message, they can miss up to 75% of the communicated message. No matter how accurate the stats, apparently nonverbal language is VERY IMPORTANT!
Put Yourself In Their Shoes
When it comes down to it, we’ve all taken a trip mentally to the department store in order to take a break from feeling like we were being scolded.
Consider that just because you think the sermon is awesome maybe they might be thinking it’s time to go home.
Sometimes less is more – especially when God is in it.
