I looked at the time and… OH NO!!!
I knew I HAD to get him to bed before it was too late. (And, before I got in trouble with his mom and dad. (I hope they aren’t reading this.)
Liam and I were at Chuckie Cheese having a blast! I let him play EVERY game he wanted… as many times as he wanted.
Hmmm… Now, I had to approach this carefully.
“Liam, you have TWO more games… then we have to go home.” (Well, that went okay.) After that, “OK buddy, you have one more game.”
“OK, Bae.”
But, when he finished, you can probably guess what happened. He screamed at the top of his lungs and threw himself down on the floor in a FULL-BLOWN FIT!
“I don’t WANT to go home!!!”
Oh NO he didn’t! He’s not doing that with me! Then he tried to hide from me by turning away and looking everywhere… except at me!
(I am NEVER doing this again!)
Then finally, he got up and said, “Wowwy about the game, Bae.” (That’s “sorry” in three-year-old speak.)
My heart just MELLLLLLLTED!
That’s when it dawned on me… Liam’s behavior with me was a perfect example of how WE are with God. (Ouch!)
God is fair. God is generous. But, when things don’t go our way…
- How many times do we throw a fit?
- Act totally ungrateful?
- Feel guilty and try to hide from God?
It’s like we’re born to run away from the very person we should be running to.
When we mess up, the last thing we want to do is face God. But just like my grandson, when a heartfelt “sorry” comes out… God is so quick to forgive us!
Wouldn’t it be nice to start 2024 with a clean slate? All God ever asks, is for us to ADMIT it, QUIT it, and He will FORGET it!
