I remember, back in the day, when I could say ANYTHING to Ashtyn… and she would do it.
No hassle. No back-talk. No negotiating. No funky looks. She just DID it! (Granted, I’m thinking of when she was two.)
Since then, I feel like I’ve lost some of my influence with her.
Now, the best way to get her to wear a certain outfit or style of clothing is NOT suggest it. Otherwise, she’s probably gonna do the exact opposite. Lol
We all gain and lose influence with people over our lifetime. Regardless of the reason, keep in mind that INFLUENCE is the key to leadership.
Have you noticed? People don’t necessarily respect titles anymore. (All the parents said “amen!”) But, they DO follow influential people, good and bad. Just look at social media.
Whether or not people follow us, is based more on the way that we use our influence. That’s where a good ATTITUDE comes in.
BLOWING UP in public or sending a snotty email is a great way to blow off some steam… if you’re someone who wants to remain at the bottom of the ladder.
Ever sent a text you wish you could take back? (Uh… yeah!)
It only takes one big MELT-DOWN or mouthing off to erode the credibility we need to lead.
My advice: NEVER answer big questions quickly and on the fly. Take your time to gather wisdom and make a SMART decision.
Making the correct decision, the FIRST time, will help build your influence and credibility. And then when the time comes, you’ll be in position for the promotion you deserve!
