I had no idea what was about to happen to me on my parents’ living room floor that night.
When I was in fourth grade, my mom asked my younger siblings and I to sit down and gather around, as she took out a book to read to us.
That’s odd.
Of course, she’d read children’s stories to us before. But, for Pete’s sake, I was almost TEN! I was old enough to read on my own!
But, this was a special book they’d given her in Sunday School. Special… because it didn’t have ANY WORDS.
Ummmm, what?
How in the world was Mom going to make any sense of cardboard pages that contained ONLY colors… and no words?
But, page by page. Color by color. Mom explained the BLACKness of sin. The precious RED Blood of Jesus. And the sparkling WHITEness of being forgiven and cleansed!
It was the story of a Savior Who laid down His life for needs I didn’t even know I would have.
A man who’d never done anything wrong, took every wrong I would ever DO… and every wrong ever done TO me upon himself, so I could be clean.
So I could be FREE!
I didn’t totally understand… but I remember feeling the gravity of my decision to invite Him into my heart.
At a time in my life when I was heartbroken and confused, God scooped up the fragmented pieces of my heart and showed me that He wanted me SO badly that He sent His only Son to die for me!
I could feel His LOVE and it was…delicious!

That wonderful day is etched in my memory, forever, because it was the day that changed the entire trajectory of my life!
The day my mom introduced me to JESUS!
God knew I would NEED that moment just to survive… and later in life, to thrive!
