Are you chewing on the side of a barn???
Let me explain.
You may not know this about me, but before I was a pastor, I lived on a farm and raised spotted saddle horses.
One of the joys of my life was getting to see them have babies. We got to witness the whole thing… which was amazing!
After the female horses were bred, we’d put them in a little paddock so we could see them from the back of our house.
We’d keep a constant eye on them so that when the babies were born, we could be there if we needed to help.
When the new babies are first born, they’re so adorable, gangly, unstable, confused and funny.
They frantically struggle just to stand up and get to their mother to nurse. (Like me in the morning looking for coffee lol).
But sometimes, in the emotion of the moment, they’ll start chewing on just ANYTHING, hoping to find nourishment… even on the side of a barn! It’s crazy!
Hmmmm. I think that sounds like the way WE make some of our important decisions.
We grab at that thing we heard on Instagram, over here.
We latch onto questionable advice that some friends said, over there.
We’re so DESPERATE for answers, that we tend to jump at the first thing we see!
But none of that is gonna nourish our future.
PAUSE.
If we just let the emotions of the moment dictate our choices, we’re going to make BAD decisions, every time.
Guaranteed.
We need to pause and NOT DO that thing we think we might regret later.
WHY?
Because the emotionally-charged thing we want to do, in the moment, is usually the WRONG thing.
WHO to marry… or not?
WHAT job to take… or not?
WHICH car or house to buy… or not?
WHERE to move… or not?
Don’t allow your emotions to make destiny-changing decisions that will affect the rest of your life!
PAUSE… and be led by the Wisdom of God.
That’s just plain old horse sense!
