Leaders and future leaders at home, in ministry, in business or in our community (this is YOU!): there‘s a great lesson in Acts 6 that I am guilty of EVERYDAY!
If we don’t say NO to some REALLY GOOD things, we will be found ‘doing’. GOOD leaders DON’T DO the thing, good leaders LEAD the thing.
So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.
Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:2-4 (NIV)
Don’t Stunt Your Growth
If we don’t take the time to IDENTIFY, RAISE UP and PRAY over a great team of DO-ERS, we will STUNT the growth of the thing we are called to lead.
When you DO something good, that you AREN’T called to do, then you aren’t doing what you ARE called to do – and that is still DISOBEDIENCE! Ouch, right?
So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7 (NIV)
When we raise up a team, give them opportunity to use their gifts, and focus on what we are CALLED to do – we will increase in number, be multiplied greatly, and have a great company of obedient leaders!
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank you for giving us so many talents to work with. Help us to focus on the tasks You have called us to accomplish, and to train and trust others to do what You have gifted them to do. In Jesus’ name.”
I am challenging myself to stay within what God has called me to do…saying No is so hard at times. I do not want to be disobedient to God.
