So I cut my own hair...
I have. A million times!
I know a million sounds like a lot, but it is true.
There are things that I want to do, sometimes need to do, that I just can’t seem to work in the way I like.
How about you?
And then other times – I just see something and want it now.
I think that is why credit cards are so popular. Because I am not alone in this issue.
Patience is a virtue and I WANT IT NOW! LOL!
The Best Advice
I have a friend that gave me some advice over a decade ago that I still have not forgotten. They said, “If it is God today, it will be God tomorrow.”
I have quoted that probably a hundred times since then. It applies in so many situations. Our flesh feels like it needs something now. The relationship, the item at the store, the car, to beat someone else to the punch…
Only to find out later that we would have rather been punched than actually gotten our way in the situation that we just had to have at the moment.
Go to God
The truth is, God is not just about our right now. God has an eternal view and when we try to make decisions in the moment – we cut out consulting the One that can see how this thing will actually play out.
Who do you think is pushing for that to happen? The enemy, of course. If he can get us to act now (hurry, they are selling fast!), then we don’t bother to spend time in prayer asking if this lines up with what God has for us.
We end up with Ishmael, when God’s plan was Issac. We end up in debt, when God’s plan was enough and even abundance. We end up out of God’s will and ask God why He let us get there. And God’s replying, “Well why didn’t you ask Me?”
This got serious quick huh? And you thought this was just about my 10p.m. decision to pull scissors out of a drawer and hack at my own hair – front and back….

Great job!! I would never attempt to cut my hair. My mother-in-law asked me to cut her’s, I told her I would take her to a hairdresser, I do not cut hair. I will “shave” my partner’s hair, though. Just keep the razor straight, flat and in a straight line! Sometimes, I have to go over it, but he appreciates the effort!
Did I (we) ever “rush” into something without really “thinking” about it, or prayed for the right answer? Yes, Kenny and I are novice real estate investors, we’ve been keeping an eye on a piece of property right across the street from our home. Well, earlier this year it finally went on the market for a steal! We made an offer after looking at it, needed some minor repairs/updates and ALOT of cleaning. Our realtor came back and asked if that was our best offer, other bids were coming in. Well, we (I) did not want to miss out on this property, so we made a bid higher than the asking price and it was accepted right away. Here we are, 4 months later, still trying to get it ready for a tenant, Kenny will mention once in a while, “I think we bit off more than we wanted” or “I think we paid too much for this place”. Next time, I’ll wait, I’ll discuss this with the Master before making a sudden “we don’t want to miss the boat” decision like that. Live and Learn! But, don’t forget to get councel from the Lord, he always leads to the right path.

WOW what a topic!! I don’t know how many times I have been talking with someone and have used the Ishmael/Isaac story. It is such a perfect example of what happens when we think God needs our help and/or He isn’t moving as fast as we want Him to. And we are still paying for the Ishmael mistake today! Perfect example of how we mess up God’s plans for us. My classic personal example: my marital history. I have been married five times – count ’em – FIVE! All ended in heartache and divorce, except the last one – which was God – and he was my soul-mate. But in NONE of those situations did I consult my God and ask Him what HIS will was for me – I got in the moment and just fell down all those rabbit-holes all by myself – and it ended in disaster – always. Because it WAS NOT GOD!! Oh if only we would learn to wait for our Isaac – whatever that may be. Don’t try to make God move faster. Something isn’t right yet, something still needs to be tweaked – and we need to get into our heads once and for all that GOD’S timing is perfect. WAIT on the Lord. Don’t try to help Him. He doesn’t need it, doesn’t want it. Wait on God’s perfection-it will be SO worth it! PS-the hair cut is great!!

Hey Pastor Nicole – I cut my hair all the time – usually at night, with kitchen scissors. The back is always longer on the left since I am right handed! Within a week, I always take the trip to OKC and have my grandson’s mother “fix” it and it looks great! Waiting is such a hard lesson to learn – glad I belong to the God of the “do-over”!!! His contract ended and we are back in Texas. We really miss Faith Church, but have downloaded Livestream so we can watch online.
