When we decided to start a new campus in Ferguson-Florissant, David and I began looking for possible locations.

We’d drive the streets in the daytime, then I’d go home and have terrible nightmares. As it turned out, we were planning a church in the very same zip code that I’d been abused in by my ex-husband.

We drove past the restaurant where he’d made a scene, the spot where the police pulled us over, and the house where he came home one day after a drug binge and held me down and almost broke my neck.

I remember trying to scream for help. But, he just laughed his evil laugh and said, “Nobody’s going to hear you.”

That was the same house where he put a revolver in my mouth and pulled the trigger. But somehow, a bullet didn’t come out.

I had to ask God, why? Why God? Where were You?

Where were You when I asked You to heal my marriage? Where were You when my house was being foreclosed on? Where were You when he was abusing me?

Where were You, God… because I kind of need to know?

God answered me and said, “I’ll tell you where I was, Nicole. I was keeping you ALIVE while the devil was trying to kill you!”

The love of God NEVER fails us! Even when we make wrong decisions, He never leaves us or forsakes us.
The devil was trying to kill me in the same zip code I was called to bring light to. He knew that if he didn’t… I’d be BACK! I’d be back starting a new church, bringing the light of God to Ferguson- Florissant!

The enemy tried to ERASE me… but my God GRACED me! And, Ain’t nobody mad but the devil!
