In seventh and eighth grade, I made the cheerleading squad. It meant that some of the girls would HAVE to hang out with me… at least a little bit.
We were practicing at the Junior High when a high school guy began making flirty comments to me.
It was kind of WEIRD. He’d never said anything remotely nice to me, before. I didn’t understand what was different about today.
Why was he paying SO much attention to me instead of some of the more popular girls?
Somehow, he managed to get me alone. The next thing I knew; things went from zero to sixty… in the BLINK of an eye!
I was drowning in even MORE shame! It would only add another LABEL to the many I was already wearing.
You know when you go to an event and everyone has those, “Hi, my name is” TAGS.
Well, that’s the way I felt. Hi! My name is unwanted, abandoned, rejected, molested, weird girl, lonely, not worth it, poor, uncool… and now, RAPED.
In my mind that was what people saw before they ever got to my given name. But, labels don’t make us who we are unless we BELIEVE them.
The enemy uses the “shame game” to try to keep us from living out our destiny. But, we haven’t come this far to let labels LIMIT us!
I don’t know what they said to you or about you. But, I DO know that God redeemed you and doesn’t recall or hold ANYTHING against you!
Neither do I.
