What makes you more excited? Finding the perfect gift for someone and watching their face as they get it? Or figuring out ways for people to give to you?

The famous statesman and Prime Minister of England Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

When we give we are more like God than any other time and that is when we get the feeling of true satisfaction. So to really enjoy life to the fullest we must spend more time on what we are giving and less time focusing on what we are getting.

If you only focus on getting a salary you will not enjoy your job.

If you focus on getting someone to meet and fulfill your needs, then you’re not enjoying the true pleasure and richness of being in relationship.

If it’s always about you and never anyone else, you are chasing a superficial emptiness that will never be filled.

So ask yourself, how can I give more this week?

Think about the people around you currently and find an opportunity to give back to them. Even if it’s just words of affirmation and celebration.

The bible says “that every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you” (Deuteronomy 16:17) and “not to withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it” (Proverbs 3:27). If you have the words to share, encourage someone, give them your words.

Encourage others and you will be encouraged, what comes around DOES go around.

You get what you give, just don’t expect it in a specific way. As you give, God will continue to fill you up and replenish you. If God can get it through you, He will get it to you. Keep giving. It is the true satisfaction in life.

It is better to give than receive, most things we have don’t belong to us anyway. Sharing is the seed of love.

I prefer to give. There’s no greater joy than putting a smile on someones face. I truly believe that.
