Have you ever tried to brush a dog’s teeth? My dog HATES it so much… I don’t even try anymore.

She totally REFUSES to cooperate! Grooming her is such a hassle that I’d just rather pay someone else to deal with her.

(I sure hope people don’t think that about ME!)

We don’t have to always be the smartest one at the table. We want to learn from people who’ve already been where we want to go.

In order to be “groomed into greatness,” we need a teachable heart, a good attitude, and a willingness to follow instructions.

Even so, we can’t always be mentored and promoted at the moment WE decide we’re ready. (Otherwise, Oprah would be at my house right now!) Lol

If someone we trust is trying to coach us, then we need to pay attention. We have to be prepared to greatly weigh EVERYTHING they say.

I remember, one time, when a staff member got involved in a relationship. AND ONLY THEN, did they ask what I thought about it. (Expecting me to bless it.)

Instead, I had to give them my honest opinion. (In the gentlest way possible, of course.) I thought the relationship was “bad news” and this person was totally WRONG for them. (What do you think happened?)

They didn’t listen.

If you really want my advice—then, please, don’t be upset when I give it to you STRAIGHT! (Sounds cheeky, huh? It’s true.)

Unfortunately, a few months later they found out I was right and it broke their heart. (I hate when that happens!)

Having a mentor can be an INVALUABLE gift!

But, if we’ve refused to follow their counsel, so far—why would they want to waste any more of their time investing in us?

OUCH!!!  That hurts!

(Sorry, I love you. That was for your own good!)
