If we do what most people do, we will get what most people get. What do ‘most people’ have anyway?
Most people:
Eat bad.
Are diagnosed with cancer at some point.
Have debt larger than they can ever pay off.
Don’t exercise.
Get divorced.
Don’t know where going but still wander aimlessly through life wishing “someone discover how great I am”.
I DON’T WANT WHAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE! Do you???? No way!
So, if we don’t want what ‘they’ have, how do we do something different? Less than 3% of Americans have written goals. And without a goal how do we know which way to go, when we got there, or if we’re making good progress? We don’t.
‘Where there is no vision the people perish’. Proverbs 29:18
When you don’t have clear vision of what you are heading for – something is going to perish. Your time. Your future. Your opportunity to get there. Ain’t nobody got time for that! (If you don’t know that phrase YouTube it sometime when you need a laugh).
God wants US to be clear on our vision.
HOW???? By writing it down making it plain
‘Then the LORD answered me and said: 1 – WRITE the vision and 2 – make it PLAIN on tablets, That he may RUN who READS it.’ Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV (numbers and emphasis added by me)
So what did the Lord himself just tell us about goal setting (or the vision for our life)?
DO – WRITE it down – Writing goals brings clarity to your dreams.
DO – Be specific – Make it PLAIN. No one likes to shoot in dark. And it’s hard to hit what you can’t see. Lose weight. How much? 5 pounds? 20 pounds? By when? A pound a week? A pound every two weeks? How do we come up with a plan if we don’t have the details of what we are really trying to make happen? Make it PLAIN.
DO – READ your goals regularly – It keeps your attention on your intentions. It pleases God.
DO – Go for it – RUN toward your goal. Don’t wait for the right opportunity to come along. Don’t say someday. Otherwise it’s not a goal, it’s a wish. Take a step to get there.
And I’d like to add:
DO – Tell people! Someone. A trusted friend, mentor or cheerleader. Telling other people increases accountability, allows for more support, and puts a little positive pressure on us to stay on the road to our dreams.
I know trying something new can be frightening! But this one step puts you in a select top tier group already! Imagine what can follow from here!!!!!!
You might be super nervous about writing goals. Or if you heard me speak in the last couple of weeks, I handed out and we ran out of what I like to call “Goal Bones”. I found these somewhere once upon a time and LOVED them. I have used them for years!
So I am sharing them on this blog AND my next blog will help prime your imagination pump!!!! I’ll post the Goal Bones on that blog, too.
So, if you’re going to DOWNLOAD the Goal Bones – take a sec a drop by the COMMENTS section to ‘tell people’ (your first opportunity for accountability and moving towards those dreams) and more importantly SHARE this blog with the people in your life that you love and want to move towards their dreams too!!!!!
To SHARE just click on one of the grey Facebook, Twitter or other social media icons right below the blog. OR copy the link and email or text it to your staff, co-workers, team mates or people you want to reach their maximum potential!!!
