I wanted to shave my legs! (I mean… I thought I was missing something.)
Let’s face it. In the fifth grade, I was taller than MOST of the boys. (Honestly, I was taller than most of my teachers, too!)
So, the boys that were interested in me were always a little older. That’s why I wanted to wear makeup long before my mom was ready to allow that.
I always wanted to HURRY and be grown up. And then, I did!
I GREW UP.
And now, (It’s SO annoying!) I keep getting these… um… BILLS! Like EVERY month! Month after month!
They just keep sending them to my house! And they expect ME to be an adult and pay them! lol
(How ‘bout you?)
When I was a single, unwed mom at 17, I HAD to grow up fast. I’ve always felt like I didn’t really get to enjoy a large part of my childhood and life as a young adult.
I NEVER wanted my daughter to deal with that kind of pressure.
So, I always told Ashtyn, “Baby, here’s the thing that I learned. You can NEVER go backwards!”
- Like when you’re 15 and you can’t drive… ENJOY 15!
- When you’re 16 and you finally get your driver’s license… ENJOY 16.
- When you’re 17 and you can’t vote yet… just ENJOY being 17!
- When you’re 20 and you can’t… um… I mean, what would you WANT to do at 21 anyway?
Just CHILL! You’ll have to deal with grown up problems, soon enough.
So, whenever I think Ashtyn is just not taking life seriously, she will remind me. “Mom, you always tell me to ENJOY where I am. I GET it!”
And, I’m SO proud of her that she does!
