A couple years ago, David and I were on a ridiculously early flight. He was reading the newspaper on his Kindle when the announcement to “turn off your electronic devices” was made.

He put it away… for about 2 minutes… then he pulled it back out again. To which, I promptly laughed out loud and said, “You are sooooo making my blog!”

He knew that I might eventually write about this and laughed, “Busted!”

He had one eye on his Kindle and one on the flight attendant. (You know; you can’t even fully enjoy your disobedience if you’re trying NOT to get caught, the whole time!)

We laughed! Then, he finally put it away. Lol

The beauty is, I can tell on him and leave myself out of it! (I’ll save my rebellious antics for another day.) Lol

So when, exactly, did we stop listening and begin to disobey people with AUTHORITY?

We park where we shouldn’t. We run red lights with the consoling thought of, “I think I can make it!” We know we might get caught… but that doesn’t seem to stop us!

What’s up with that?

I think we incorrectly calculate the consequences of disobedience. (perhaps a reprimand or loss of credibility) And therefore, we JUSTIFY it!

We operate in a pattern that loosens our INTEGRITY.

Life is like a pickle jar. It’s really hard to break that “integrity seal”, the FIRST time. But once we finally get it to open… it’s so much EASIER each time after that.

Obedience is cheap and much less trouble than the sacrifice it takes to CLEAN UP the mess and restore our honor, once trust has been broken.

God would much prefer our OBEDIENCE, in the first place! OUCH!!!

Do you have a hard time submitting to authority, too? Who rubs you the wrong way? (I won’t tell.)

I’m SO excited! Help me celebrate the release of my NEW Book, “Hi God, One More Thing”, Thursday morning, January 30th at 7:00 AM (CST), on Facebook LIVE!
