What a great day! David and I were enjoying some rare time off, ALONE. We were holding hands, walking, eating, shopping, kid-free, work-free, worry-free… almost GIDDY!
It was so much fun, it felt like we were on a first date, again!
Then it happened! All of a sudden, a seemingly innocent comment opened an old wound.
WHY did I have to say that? Me and my BIG MOUTH!!!
Have you ever pulled off part of an old scab and then it started bleeding again? (Sorry… didn’t mean to be gross.)
It all came pouring out, quickly. Stuff like, “Why did they…? What were they thinking…? There’s no way they should have…!”
Our pace sped up and the mood dropped like a bag of wet cement! Before we knew it, our day had been HIJACKED by a single runaway thought and the words that can out of our mouths.
It took me about 10 minutes to realize that I wasn’t having fun anymore. How can I fix this?
So, I took a deep breath and… I ATE it!
I told David, “I screwed up!” I brought up something STUPID and ruined the entire mood. It was MY fault that we weren’t laughing, anymore.
Then, I kissed him on the lips and pinched him on the butt! (I don’t recommend that part unless it’s your spouse.) lol
We are the ones in control of our own brains! Stamp out those random thoughts BEFORE they ever have the chance to become spoken words.
Think about what you’re thinking about before you just let your mouth go! Going downhill is EASY. Getting back up where we want to be… is more of an uphill battle!
