I remember this cute little sidewalk cafe that David invited me to, on one of our first dates. I knew I REALLY liked this guy— so I wasn’t going to waste any time.
I dumped ALL my baggage… right on the table!
After all— if he was going to run, he could go before my feelings got too deep. If this door was going to SLAM shut, the sooner the better!
I told him EVERYTHING!
Now, I’m not suggesting that when you meet someone new, you should immediately unload decades of CRAZINESS on them.
But at the same time, it doesn’t work to hold it all in until later when there could be a problem.
If you’re afraid of your past coming out, take the POWER away from it by sharing it with someone who cares about you.
OWN it— then walk away.
David wasn’t scared. Somehow, he believed me—which translated to— he believed IN ME!
I started easing up. I didn’t, automatically, start telling myself why it WASN’T going to work, this time.
When YOUR chance comes— will you take it?
Or, are you just going to keep rehearsing your past screw-ups over and over again in your head? Don’t be the one who’s holding the doors CLOSED, while God is trying to open them!
What if—Mr. (or Mrs.) Right is in your life, RIGHT NOW, and you’re so busy blowing them off and trying to shut the door because [insert your stupid reason here].
Have a little FAITH that God is in charge of the door.
Say “yes”— just one time. One dinner. One coffee. One walk. One lunch. And give God a chance to OPEN UP something new in your life!
