As a kid, did you ever hear “Go out in the backyard and pick out a switch?”
Well, I picked up EVERY single stick in the whole yard. That yard was the cleanest it had ever been.
Then, I carefully inched… my… way… over to… the fence and chucked those puppies right OVER!
(I was feeling pretty smart!)
Until, I went back in and my parents told me to go pick a switch off the tree. (Oh… and because I lied, NO dinner!)
UGH! I love to eat. That was gonna be so much WORSE!
I was already feeling bad enough. Then, the enemy started messing with my head.
“I can’t believe you did that, Nicole. What kind of person are you, anyway?”
Has the devil ever taunted you over something you’ve done? (If you’re like me, those thoughts hurt more than the actual punishment.)
There I was, talking to the devil, who was beating up on me. Talking to myself, trying to figure out how to get out of that mess.
The only one I didn’t talk to… was God.
It’s no secret that the enemy wants us to feel SO bad about ourselves that we think God would never want to hear from us.
But, don’t let him PUNK you like that!
God LOVES you so much that even when you’re hiding your face from Him… He’s still looking out for you.
And He’ll correct us, so we get our tails back in line where we’re supposed to be.
He may even send us a sweet reminder that He still loves us … no matter what we’ve done.
Afterwards, I looked up and saw my friend sitting on the other side of the fence… eating Dairy Queen.
She shared her treat and spoon-fed me ice cream through the fence, until I felt better!
When we’re feeling down, (or just plain hungry) God still knows how to give us the GOOD stuff!
What GOOD STUFF has God given to you in the middle of your mess? Tell me in the “comments.”
Do you want to learn how to ignore those thoughts trying to push you down? Do you want to be able to really talk to God about the tough stuff?
That’s why I wrote the “Hi God” books, to help you approach God when you just don’t know what to say.
