Life is a series of stepping stones. I remember when my daughter, Ashtyn, was first learning to walk.

David and I would sit in front of her with our arms wide open. With every little step, we would encourage her to take another. It wasn’t long before she was hobbling and then walking without stumbling and now running.

Of course, Ashtyn had some pretty good motivation… the world’s coolest parents were sitting in front of her.

What Motivates You?
Ask yourself why you are doing what you’re doing, then use it as a means to stay determined. You see, a lot of people have already given up on their New Year’s resolutions because they have lost or misplaced their motivation.

I’ve learned that the best way to stay dedicated is to keep your motivation out in front of you. This morning, I printed out a photo of myself when I was about ten pounds heavier than I am now.

I posted it in my workout area to remind me that this is what I get when I don’t exercise.

You see, sometimes it’s difficult for me to put one foot in front of the other when it comes to walking to my treadmill. But these are the steps I need to take to keep myself in good health.

We Are All Going Somewhere

Where are you headed?
1. It’s easy not to exercise yet it’s easy to exercise.
2. It’s easy to pray and study yet it’s easy not to pray and study.
3. It’s easy to be kind and it’s easy not to be kind.

Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” (KJV)

Even if you’ve been distracted or gotten completely off path, just turn around and put one foot in front of the other. That’s all it takes to get back on track. I know you can do it! You will make it!

Take action now.
Don’t let this moment pass you by. Over the years, I have seen many people search for that one big, life-changing miracle or sign. Oftentimes the matrix of our miracle is not in some mighty and marvelous moment or singular occurrence; it is in these seemingly insignificant daily steps. These are the steps that lead to your miracle.

So what are you waiting for? Are the steps you are taking today bringing you closer or further away from your goals?

    Dear Nichole,
I wanted to thank you and pastor David for your teachings. I have never seen the bible taught in such a way. I was active in church , when I was younger. But, got discouraged with all the hell and damnation sermons. I have been living my life in survival mode. Since, watching Faith church online I’m beginning to see things in a different light. You both have been talking alot about setting goals and walking with God. I’m unsure how on both counts. My goal set has been paying the next bill or putting foid on the table. My relationship with God consists of a lot of “I’m sorrys” . Any suggestions on how to break out of these old patterns? Anyway, keep talking, I am listening.

Tamara – Start confessing over your life that the things that have held you back before or the “old patterns” become just that, old. Every time, you repeat a pattern, say “Thank you God that I can’t stand this anymore”. Over time you will realize that what you’re saying is true and the patterns will begin to cease. Keep your head up and keep looking to Him for strength!

You must have read Jeff Olson’s book – The Slight Edge. Things are easy to do, and just as easy not to do! Keep on doing them and before you know it, you will accomplish great things!!

Great Blog Pastor Nicole. I’m always determined to finish what I start even if it is difficult. I believe that the steps that I am taking right now in going to college will help me achieve my goal of working in a preschool with preschoolers. Yeah it may become difficult and frustrating at times but I have the best support system and motivation team my family and my wonderful friends. I believe with their help I will finish what I’ve started and graduate from college with my Associate’s Degree in early childhood education I’m going to stay motivated and determined.

Determination makes the difference between falling and staying down or falling and getting back up.
